Hi Everyone, It's been busy since we got back, so I'm finally taking time to write a brief report. Thanks to everyone for their wonderful advice.
We took a 'park/sleep/fly' package at the Hyatt Place near Charlotte Airport for Friday night and left the car there. Arrive via USAirways around 1:20 on Saturday, and after waiting a little while for Lesley to bring the car, we were off to the Pelican Resort. Sure enough, we got M210 as RCI confirmation showed, and we were ecstatic once in the room. We've stayed in plenty of timeshares, and the room itself was pretty typical. However, the balcony - was to die for!!!! HUGE - w/ a table/4 chairs, along w/ a couple of loungers. We were right on the water - but right next to the pool. It was never loud - but very convenient! We went to PeliDeli to get a few staples (rum/diet) and then hit the pool. We walked to Toppers for dinner, and then on to the casino. We were at the casino every night, and by the 2nd night - we felt like we knew all the employees. Most were pretty personable. Overall, we were up for the week by a little (maybe a hundred or two), but that's good in our book. Roulette and Black Jack is what we played most of.
Sunday was a slow day, as hubby took advantage of too many free drinks at the casino. I went to the pool for a while, and eventually, we went out to Sunset Beach Bar to catch a few planes coming in. We had dinner at Lee's Roadside Grill. It was just ok for us.
Monday - Off to Orient. Ahhhhhh, as beautiful as we remembered. We hung out at Kakao's and enjoyed lunch there as well (good thin crust pizza). Dinner was at Skipjacks. Probably our favorite meal of the week.
Tuesday - we were really lazy and finally got to Sunset Beach Bar again around lunch time. Took some video and pictures. After that we just drove around the island some. Dinner was at Hideaway.
Wednesday - We took the ferry over to Pinel. Beautiful - but more crowded than I expected. We liked it, but I don't think we'd do it again. We came back around 4pm and went straight back to Kakao's. Hung there for a while, then reluctantly went back to the resort, knowing this was our last evening. We had a pizza late at Kakao's but by 8pm or so, we were still a bit hungry, so we hit the Italian place (we'd been warned against on this board) for one dinner to share. It was fine. Off to the casino again, like every other night.
Thursday - Last day - Took it easy packing and checking out. Ate lunch at the Boathouse. This is the one restaurant we remembered from our honeymoon, and we wanted to go back. It was good!
Off to the airport - and back home that night.
Thoughts on Pelican Resort & Island in general - We loved it and would stay again in a heart beat. We've been to other islands since our honeymoon here in 1994 - and truthfully, Aruba is my favorite (been there 5 times), but I'd say SXM is a close second. We felt prices overall were a lot cheaper in SXM - which was nice! We had no problems with crime.
