Looking for a beautiful swimming beach with great snorkeling

We are four adults trying to find somewhere in the Caribbean to go for a vacation & found St Martin to be of interest. We all love spending time at the beach, swimming & would really like the option of snorkeling right from the beach, not just taking snorkeling tours. Having a town that we can walk to would be nice. We would prefer a two bedroom suite. Alamanda was one resort that we thought would be suitable. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

There is no town within a walk from Alamanda, only a village with restaurants/bars.

There are quite a few restaurants and bars in Orient Village. Safari Grill (French), Ti Chi (Asian), Le Piment (pizza, casual dining), Cote Plage (French),Little Italy (pasta) Across the street is Planet Orient (French), a small Belgium type bistro/bar, and Tap 5 for pizza and other light meals. Le Cadre serves mostly tapas and La Chapelle is a sports bar/club/restaurant that stays open late. La Chapelle may have closed for a time. Additionally right outside Orient complex on the main road is Rancho Del Sol for dinner and drinks.

Several beach bars have parties at night during high season - Waikiki, Budha Bar at Bikini, Kontiki and Boo Boo Jams, Aloha for lunch. Check out Kpasa.com for music, happy hour, parties, etc. information.

There are no ATM's in Orient Village or in Grand Case. Most restaurants expect tip to be paid in cash even if a credit card is used. It's is a good idea to carry some cash in USD and or Euro.

Snorkling is questionable as the surf may be calm or rough and windy.

Little Bay is a good choice as the beach is generally always calm and the snorkling is good. Philipsburg is just a short 20 minute scenic walk.

Divi and Belair are the two hotels on this beach.

There are usually good timeshare deals on Little Bay at:

Thank you for your reply. We will look in to the two resorts you mentioned. I went in to the web site for the villas but we were thinking of going in February which I could not choose as an available month. Have you been to any other islands in the Caribbean that you enjoyed or do you prefer St Martin.

Thanks

There is fairly good snorkling in Simpson bay off of the Flamingo/Pelican beach area. Great swimming beach with two bed units avalable at Royal Palm, Atrium Pelican and Flamingo. All with in easy walking distance to restaurants, casinos and night life.

As Bobcat said the Divi in Little bay also has a nice swimming beach with good snorkling.

We were in St. Marten in June. We stayed in Simpson Bay area and really enjoyed the island. We rented a car and drove to different beaches. Take your own snorkeling equipment so you can really enjoy. The snorkeling is not like Hawaii (different coral but we saw lots of nice fish) but the water is awesome. Favorite Snorkeling: Pinel Island - north side; Happy bay & Friar's Bay; Bae Rouge (snorkel through the arches - we took a tube with refreshments & lunch in cooler for a day on a private beach) and Prickly Pear Anguilla Boat Trip (Aqua Mania boat trip - great place!!!). We snorkeled other places but the water was rough those days so we don't have an opion really but heard Dawn Beach was good too. Favorite relaxing Beaches were Plum Bay, Mullet & Simpson. Awe ... wish I were back there. also take a trip to Creole Rock. A week is not enough - we were there for 2 and still did not experience enough!

The Royal Palm was nice 2 bedroom condos and had a small beach and was within walking to Pelican Bay. We walked to Beachside Villas (beachsidevillas.com) that looked awesome. Good beach walking, great beach bar to walk to (Karakter's) and not far from other nice beaches.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all of your information. The Beachside Villas look really nice. We're having a hard time deciding where to go & wonder if we are putting too many things on our wish list. Hopefully we can decide something soon.

St. Maarten has terrific swimming beaches. They do have good snorkeling as well. I would recommend taking the ferry over to Saba, where probably has the best snorkeling and diving.
