French side vs. Dutch side?

All,

I am traveling to St Marteen with my wife for our honeymoon. I already book the newly renovated one bedroom beachfront room at the Divi. I keep second guessing myself should I switch to the French side. By the way I did get a great deal on the room @ $200 a night.

Thank you in advance for the imput

Joey

Divi is a honeymoon hotel. I have seen a number of weddings and receptions held at the Divi over the years. It is a very scenic location. Be sure to let them know you're on your honeymoon.

Of course you should rent a car to see the entire island, dine around, do some duty free shopping and visit some beaches.

Congratulations and Best Wishes !!

Don't second guess yourself. Divi is a nice place to stay. It isn't a super luxurious resort but there are only a few luxurious resorts on the entire island anyway and those prices are much higher. If you are looking for a beautiful setting and nice area, you have chosen well. If you were looking for "luxurious" where the staff caters to your every need, then I would have suggested L'Esplanade in Grand Case but the cost would be higher and it seems that you are comfortable with what you are currenly paying. I would say that you will be happy with your choice. As Bobcat mentioned, be sure to tell the staff that you are on your honeymoon. I'm sure they will give you the attention you would like. An early congratulations!

Thanks for the info.

I have a choice to stay in St Maarten for two weeks. or split my time between St Maarten and Puerto Rico. Is two weeks too long in St Maarten?

Two weekks in SXM is never too long for me. There is so much to do, see and dine. But if you are connecting through Puerto Rico, I would consider maybe a 2 or 3 night stay. Old San Juan is a great place. The restaurants are fabulous, great night life and lots of dancing. Good way to end your trip! Happy Honeymoon!!

I was planning to go NYC-SMX-SAN JUAN-NYC or NYC-SMX-NYC. I don't have to make a stopover but was thinking why not.

congratulations! french vs dutch side is such personal preference question. if you like a more laid back, quiet, european feel then the french side. if you prefer something more americanized (congested) and offering more nightlife (casinos, etc) then the dutch side. it's not a right or wrong side but personal preference. i have not been to this divi but believe it's a little more off the path than other places on the dutch side.

whatever side you choose be sure to rent a car...each side has it's unique personality! good luck and best wishes!

Hi Joey,

I have never been to St. Martin but, my brother loves St. Martin/Maarten. He stayed at the Divi a couple of years ago and did the all-inclusive. He is used to staying at very nice places. All I heard was wonderful things.

One more thing Joey....

I am in the process of trying to decide where to go in April. I am considering St. Martin/Maarten based on my brothers feedback. My bother and his wife told me that the lobster at the Divi was wonderful.

Mom58,

Thanks for the info. I did not see any all-inclusive deals anywhere at the Divi. I guess I will have to call to find out.

It is a good idea to phone them but, I think it is quite expensive.
