Skipjacks-BAD service,no apology after 1 1/2 hrs. Stay away.

Waited patienty for drinks & bread 20 min. Waiter never came again after ordering, for 1 1/2 hrs! 3 tables beside us were also

ignored. All of us tried to tell woman at front but she was snippy &

walked away saying she didn't want to argue. But we never raised our voices or talked as nasty as she did. We all asked for our

check to leave. Waiter then came by to say food would come soon.

After waiting more for check we left. We only ordered fried

& stuffed shrimp that shouldn't take 1 1/2 hrs to prepare. SXM

specialists should complain loudly to that restaurant for ignoring

& treating all of us so badly. Another table of 4 said he saw all the waiters at the bar. We'll certainly tell everyone never go there.

Strange, we have always had great food and service at Skipjacks. Been going there for many years. Sounds like they had a bad day. Will give them a try again in May and draw my own conclusion.

I happen to agree with the OP. I know Skipjacks is well loved by many but we have tried twice. The food they serve is well below "tasty standards". Their service is awful and they make you feel like they are doing YOU a big favor by eventually serving you. Every day at Skipjacks is a bad day! We will never go back, too many excellent restaurants in SXM, just MHO.

LB12SXM, how resently have you been there?

Last November, 2nd and last time! I am one who does believe that restaurants DO have bad days, that's why we gave it a 2nd chance. What does that have to do with when we were there last?

Just wondering if they resently have a new manager or staff and that was the problem. That is why I asked.

We ate there last May three times in three weeks and each time was great. I will still give it a go as I have not personally had a bad experience there. If I do that will be the last time for me too.

SXMScubaman, I do not believe they changed ownership recently. I do know that the Boat House has and there have been some problems there (a whole different story). I feel their service leaves much to be desired but I can deal with "island time". My problem is the food. We found that the seafood chowder was the same filling in their so-called lobster pot pie. Their fish and chips meal was a disaster. Fish was soggy, oliy and COLD . The fries were the same. Waiter did not even care or ask why we never ate our meal. For a "fish restaurant" the food was awful. Like I stated, there are too many excellent restaurants in SXM to give them a 3rd chance! Hope you have a better experience when you dine there.

Our frustration wasn't just about "island time". It was being ignored. If they wanted us to be happy patrons at least the waiter could have returned to refill our drinks & say something to us. It doesn't matter how recent one went. We were just there & had awful deal. So did other tables. Thanks to poster who agreed with us. Why couldn't you, sxm expert, acknowledge our

bad experience?

Far as Boathouse, we went there too & altho food was horrid & I was ill the

next day, at least the greeting & service was decent & timely.

Freckles...I am taking a chance by voicing what the experts may be thinking when they read your post and that you didn't have to put "SXM Expert" into your answer as if you were saying that the "experts" know it all. Scubaman was voicing his opinion as you did. He even stated that he would be on the lookout for such type of service on his next trip since his prior experiences were favorable and I would bet that he will probably return here to give his experience, good or bad.

I work in a restaurant environment and know full well that there are MANY factors that make up daily dining experiences and when one of the factors is missing, it can make for a horrid experience. One is that the owner was absent, leaving inexperienced or lazy workers to take on this responsibility. We all know full well that when the cats away the mice will play. This happened on numerous occasions at Peg Leg Pub when Shaun wasn't there in the old establishment. This didn't mean that the food was bad but that the service was intolerable.

If you heard the food was good but didn't even get to experience this, I would suggest you contact the owner and let him/her know what happened. This is a more positive way to accomplish something as many did with Peg Leg and so things did change for the better.

Another factor that many don't consider is that the head Chef does not usually work every day unless they are investors in the restaurant themselves. Food can be superb one day and inedible the next.

I truly understand how frustrated you were (this happened to us at Toppers By the Sea last December) and I acknowlege what happened was inexcusable but take a moment to let the owner know. It's a moment of your time but may make a difference.

Sorry... but I would also like to add that on rare but repeated occasions (like The Turtle Pier) I have heard that the owner was present when bad service or bad food was encountered and that the owner did not acknowlege this nor do anything about it and so with cases like this, all I can say is that I would certainly avoid going there again until change of ownership. That would be the obvious straw.

Wow destination expert....All of your reasons why skipjacks service was bad might be true. But we got shafted period. We waited & waited. When we tried to tell management we got nowhere with front desk gal who cut us off & walked away. When our long lost waiter finally came by after another 15 min wait he only said in snarky tone our food would be there soon. When we asked for mgr he returned with our check-never apologizing.

There was tall blond guy trying to convince tables across from us to stay.

He cut them off & kept talking until they all rose asking for their check to leave. We didn't feel he was one to talk to either. The damage had already been done. So we tried to tell our story but couldn't connect. As I said we

were nice & patient & theres no excuse for such shoddy treatment & long

wait. Not our problem if restaurant isn't run correctly.

Its not worth my time to track down some inept management either. I'll

leave that up to you. You put yourself out as a specialist so why be upset

when I mentioned such? I thought this form was a place to tell about ones experiences. Sorry I never meant to offend anyone. I do thank you for at last

acknowledging our frustration. Not returning to skipjacks tho.

Thanks to other posters who agreed with me.
