Orient Bay or Beacon Hill/Simpson Bay?

Long-time reader, first-time poster...

We have a group of about a dozen adults-- no kids-- coming for 7 days in July... We are all college classmates (or their spouses/significant others) getting together for our 11th anniversary graduation reunion (we started doing this every year four years ago)... Ages run from 29 to 35... We're looking to have a great time with friends, drink lots of alcohol, eat great food, enjoy the beachlife and water sports (parasailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, etc.), dance to some good music, soak up some sun, shop, and gamble a little bit...

We've identified acceptable places in Orient Bay and Beacon Hill/Simpson Bay, but none of us have ever been so we don't know which one is more "us"... Which would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Sounds to me like you all are a Dutch side party by night and French side by day bunch.. Most nighttime action is over on the Dutch side while a good part of the daytime activities can be found on both sides, the French side seems better suited to your requirements.

The question is how to accommodate your party spirit with your outdoors daytime watersports since you will have to travel from one side to the other.

I suppose one way would be to rent two villas and divide your group in two with one villa on the French side and one on the Dutch side. This redues the need for driving long distances and allows more time to enjoy both daytime and nightime activities.

Agreed. You do not want to be driving back to Orient after an evening of partying. Drive there during the day and enjoy the beach!

Bobcat categorized your group well in terms of what you want to do and what the island has to offer, and barcan and sxmlover have given you a solid game plan. That is pretty much the strategy I follow and it has worked out well. Have a great time.

We are 2 single straight guys (30 y.o), first time in St Marteen. Would you be able to suggest a resort/hotel (pref beach front) and walking distance to all the nightlife , parties, young crowd (20's 30's), rest etc. We'll be there from May 28-31 , so just want to hang out on the beach during day and party at night. Thnx

Don't think you will find young single poeple hanging out at the resorts much anywhere on the island. They are all out exploring beaches by day, hanging out in Simpson Bay/Maho by night.

This island is different than most. Few folks hang at the resort much.
