Best beaches

Hi we are arriving in St Maartin on a cruise, and just looking to chill out.

Can you advise on a nice beach which will be near the cruise terminal. We like walking and would prefer a beach within walking distance. If this is not possible how far would it be in a taxi and approx how much would be the cost.

thanks in advance

If you get off the cruise ship and start walking on front street does it take you to great bay? How long is this walk? How much further a walk is it to little bay?

Your ship will dock at Great Bay. You can walk along Front Street to shop or the boardwalk to relax in a cafe and enjoy the beach.

If you walk the entire Front Street and up the hill you will reach Little Bay. This may take one hour or more depending upon your walking style.

You can enter Little Bay at Divi Resorts gate house.

You can't walk to Orient.

Great Bay Beach is just what you are looking for.

You can rent beach chairs from Holand House along the Board Walk. They also have a changing room, restroom for patrons to use.

As others have already mentioned, Great Bay Beach that lines Philipsburg is really a nice expansive beach. You would not be disappointed. Just be careful with your belongings (no matter what beach you find) but epecially Great Bay since this is where most of the tourists shop and thus a higher possibility of losing them to pick-pockets etc. If you are planning on shopping, do this just before you board the ship and not beforehand. Just chill on the beach, order some drinks and food, and enjoy the view.

You can take the shuttle boat from the cruise ship terminal right to the center pier in Philipsburg. So much more convenient and it gives you more time to chill out on the beach. If you sit near Taloula Mango's (aka Blue Btch Bar), there is usually a good band playing at lunch time so you can have music on the beach as well.

We are going to the island in April, we are thinking about going to Orient Beach, how far is it? What did it cost to get a cab? was it easy to catch a cab back? What do you recommend us to do beside spend several hours at the beach.

Thanks, Loretta

Time & fare depend upon distance. Lot's to do on Orient. Water, food, relax.
