info on st maarten/st martin

thinking of going over spring break {late march} with my teen son. want an upscale condo/resort on good swimming beach at a location where you can walk to shops, restaurants, etc... Is Orient Beach livelier? Prioritries would be location that is walkable and then nice beach. All help is appreciated!!

This Island is just not set up that way unless you stay in Philipsburg or Marigot or very close to these towns you're not going to have more than a few shops to visit on foot. A car is essential pretty much everywhere you stay.

Orient is fine for beach, dining, cafes, bars but not many shops.

Sonesta MaHO has an arcade of shops, probable the most of any hotel. Also a couple of timeshare resorts fill out the MaHO complex.

The problem here is the beach not as good as one would expect and you would have to find another.

Have you a selction of choices we could discuss each?

Regarding Maho, Mullet Beach is about a 5 minute walk from Maho and is one of the nicer beaches on the island because it's so undeveloped. There are 2 small shack lolo's where you can buy chicken, ribs, and beverages. The bathrooms are not the greatest though, being pretty ugly.

We were in St. Thomas a few years back and did not like it much as we couldn't walk into town and there were no beaches in the big town needed a car to go anywhere and that wasn't good for us. I am open to all suggestions. We really just want a nice condo or resort on the beach (swimmable) that is in town. Never been to St. Maarten so I don't know if this is even feasible. Phillipsburg seems to be the ig area but are there upscale condo/resort on beach there? iWanna have the option to walk to shops, grocery dining, etc.. whenever. If you know Playa Del Carmen that is the atmosphere we are looking for. Does St. Maarten have that? Alhamanda looks nice on Orient Beach but is there enough there?
