First Timer! Don't want to miss anything!

My husband and I are coming in Mid August. We only have a week. Suggestions?

Best restaurant?

Best beach ( clothed please!)?

Best snorkeling trip?

Best shopping? We like to find a place that sells authentic items, not mass produced.

Best off island adventure?

Husband is a big fisherman. Any great trips/spots?

Can't wait!

You really can't go wrong if you try any restaurant in Grand Case - you will find everything from ribs served on paper plates to fine linens and crystal and it is all wonderful.

Friars Bay is beautiful as is Baie Rouge - but it is hard to find a beach that is NOT lovely.

The Anguilla trip is a must-do, in my opinion - it's so very close but such a different island! It's British, it's flat and the beaches are wonderful.

You will have a wonderful time!

Thanks so much!

Towanda, what was the cost of going to Anguilla? Any departure taxes? What activities were available??

Thanks Bobcat. Can you pin down a couple of great snorkeling areas? We once visited Cook's bay in Hawaii and have never found it's equal. We would love to find some great spots. Possibly interested in being first time scuba divers too.

Grand Case has numerous fine french and caribbean dining and local bistros that are excellent. The names of bistros dont really stick in my memory, I read the menus, take in the aromas and give them a try.

Mont Vernon in the French Cul de Sac has some great restaurants including Ti Bouchon and Sol e Luna among several others. Cuisine in this area is very good.

The bistros on the Marina in Marigot serve some good cuisine. i have eaten at nearly all of them for lunch or dinner and would recommend you try, including Bali Bar and Le Chanticlir. There is also a great Vietnamese restaurant whose name I dont remember but is in this vicinity I recommend.

Orient Bay has some good and varied restaurants and I recommend Astrolabe among them.

Several good restaurants in Nettle Bay. Laylas Beach Bar serves good food in a nice setting, La Sammana and Le Santal were good.

The Bridge restaurant located near the Marina, heading toward Nettle Bay, serves delicious Caribbean meals and a nice atmosphere.

There are good restaurants in the Atlantis Casino.

There are some good and varied dining choices in Simpson Bay Lagoon and Pelican Key, particularly Pelican area. I would stay away from the ribs and burger spots--food usually bland-- Again I recommend that you read their menus and give these eateries a try. Many are really good.

IF you are able to get over to Anguilla, ask for Ambrose Fleming. he owns a development called Ocean Terrace and can make wonderful recommendations regarding all the things you want to do on your stay at St. Martin and during your time in Anguilla.

supermom, there is nothing around St. Maarten that even closely rivals Cook's Bay.. That place is spectacular.

In general, the snorkeling here is only fair.
