Just returned from 11 days on the island. We had a great vacation and owe this forum a report in return for all the great help we received before our trip.
Rented from Michael at Unity for the third time and as before, everything worked out perfect. It may be strange for those of us that travel in the States not to get written confirmations, etc. But every time the driver has been waiting for us at the airport, we get to Unity's lot and we're on our way within 5 minutes. No hassles, no extras, just a nice car at a nice price.
Stayed at Club Orient and although the price may be a bit more than some of the other resorts, the price is worth the experience and amenities.
The weather turned rough over the weekend of the 13th, the storms brought in some seaweed which took a few days to clear off Orient Beach. This made snorlkeling a challenge, but by mid-week things were clear enough to go back and see the sealife.
Will only report on a fraction of the places we ate. In Grand Case for Talk of the Town twice and LeCottage once. Great ribs and chicken at Talk of the Town at a very reasonable price (one euro = one dollar). The food, wine and staff at LeCottage were superb as usual. What nice, gracious hosts and the food is out of this world.
The food at Papaguyos was OK - tried both the Miso and French Onion soups and can get much better here at home. The dinner is a bit pricey for the quality, but the entertainment on the nights we were there made up for that. Music and a nice crowd of friendly people.
Had no issues with crime. Spent time in Grand Case and Marigot, we were treated with kindness and never felt threatened. As mentioned here so many times - never leave anything in the car and remember random acts of crime can occur in any urban environment. Be aware of your surroundings.
It is the Friendly Island.
