Just returned from Sonesta Maho last night, (see review). This was an average all-inclusive, and we did enjoy it. Reasons we are not going to return are: No beach, just a small area that gets swept away with the tides. Noise from airport was annoying after a while (lots of air traffic during the day, only)

We did go to the sister Great bay sonesta and liked it much better (in phillipsburg on the beach and a 10 minute beach walk to town). Other than what is listed above we found all other ammenities to be of 3+ star quality room/dining/grounds

AI is not especially popular on St Maarten and most hotels do not offer it.

Now that I just returned from my first visit to St Maarten, I would never consider an AI. That right there is good advice! An AI seems to 'tie a person to a single resort', IMO, this island has too many great eating establishments and too many wonderful beaches to be tied down, and if you do an AI and do not venture out, you've missed out!
