1st trip...next week...last minute questions...

I've done some searching, but many answers seem old. This is our first trip to St Maarten - and we'll be on the island for a week...

It seems like Le Grand Marche is the recommended grocery store, for lower prices, But - after going to the link someone so graciously posted - they are closed before we land! We arrive at 3:15 p.m. Suggestions for another store OR some place for dinner?

Looking at their flyer - prices are $ and Naf ... is the $ sign US $?

We generally like to eat breakfast and lunch in our own unit and go out for dinner...

Renting a car from Paradise (recommended by one of the scuba shops)...have seen mixed reviews - do we tell them a local business recommended them, and maybe they'll treat us fairly?

Staying at Divi Little Bay Beach & Racquet Club - any suggestions? Grocery stores closer? Restaurants? Things we shouldn't miss? Your favorite site?

Favorite restaurants - older couple (oh my!!! 50s...is that old??? LOL) love seafood - would rather go where the locals dine, do not care about fancy

Who are we? Teachers, love nature, scuba diving, riding horses, kayaking...not much into night life (oh yea, you knew that - I said we're older!)

Looking forward to hearing from you! THANK YOU!!!

For groceries I recommend without reservation Jeannie from Shop and Drop Grocery. She will deliver your groceries to your resort and they will be waiting on you when you get there. Even if you only buy enough groceries for the first couple of days and go shopping later this service is worth it!

Yes, the price in $ is US Dollars. The guilder price is the higher number with NAf before it.

Don't know anything about Paradise. I have used Leisure Car Rental (http://www.leisurecarrentalsxm.com/) and Banana Location (http://www.bananalocation.com/saint-martin/) and they have both been fantastic.

Favorite restaurants with a local flavor: Yvette's in French Quarter for sure (closed on Tuesdays) - best johnnycakes I have eaten and their conch salad is delicious! Mark's Place beside of the Grand Marche on Bush Road is supposed to be great for local food, but I haven't made it there yet. Also you can't miss the lolo's in Grand Case: Sky's the Limit, Talk of the Town, Scooby's, Rib Shack, and another I believe. My favorite has been Sky's the Limit.

Hope this helps

Dustin

Le Grand Marche, just a short drive from Divi carry just about everything you will need. Divi has on site a small grocer where you can pick up a few items to hold you until you can get over to the larger store. Prices are in NAf and convert to US$ @ 1.80 a good rate.

Chesterfields offers some nice seafood selections and can be seen across the Great Bay from Divi. Also is a good breakfast choice.
