We stayed at the pelican B building b352--we had a loooong walk up the hill, but they provided vans to take you if you didn't want to walk. (like carrying groceries). Our unit was a corner unit 1 bedroom and did have airconditioning in the bedroom & living room. We didn't know other units did not have it until we spoke to others. We had a wonderful balcony with a table, 4 chairs & a lounge chair. We had a wonderful view and a great sunset. The rsort is not 5 stars. It needs lots of work, but the Royal Resorts (from Cancun) have taken it over and trying to update & fix it up. We had some maintenence issues - moldy smell & mold on the bedroom ceiling--but we called & someone came pretty quickly and bleached the ceiling & spayed. The next day, the smell was almost gone & by day 3 it was fine. We had some little ants on the counter, but maintence was there within 5 minutes after our call with ant spray, and left the can. The room decor is very outdated - green wicker furniture & cabinets---but it is very spacious and the maid did a wonderful job cleaning the unit. She even left us a flower bouquet with fresh flowers and greens she picked from the gardens.
We went to Toppers restaurant 2 times. Wonderful steaks, and the stuffed Mahi Mahi with crabmeat was fabulous. We ate at Pineapple petes - had the Rack of Lamb --yummy...melted in your mouth. Don't miss the red piano bar --Tammy T is fantastic. The casino was pretty empty most of the time at the tables especially, but the dealers were friendly at the roulette table, and the drink girl was around non-stop.
We did the "beach hopping" tour thru the pelican - $15 per person--went to 2 beaches, had about 4 hours at Orient beach...wonderful...we rented a beach chair & umbrella & had 2 pina colada's for $16. Don't go when the cruise ships are there, the prices go up & the crowds are awful. We had lunch at the Lo-Lo's - $8 rack of ribs & 3 sides ...OMG
what a deal!! --- We went to Marigot and took back French pastries to our villa (for dinner)
as we were so full from a large lunch...great trip--worth every penny!
We ate that the beach bar at the pelican during the day several times, and went to the orientation on Monday & the "get together" at the marina pool at night for complementary drinks & snacks--very nice.
We went to Phillipsburg on the free shuttle, and I got into trouble at D&G jewlers. I went for a gold anklet, but ended up with not ony the ankle bracelet, but a chocolate & white diamond/14k gold ring....oh boy...didn't see that coming! We bought a battery charger for our camera at Boolchangs, and souveniers at Rima's...(ended up not getting my charge card back) but when I got back to my room, I realized this and started to panic, retraced my steps & called Rima's - spoke with Nick and he had the charge & kept it for me--which I went back several days later & he had it for me. Good thing he was trust worthy.
All in all, we had a wonderful time, great weather and friendly people....I recommend the Pelican and St Maarten.
