There are a few restaurants within walking distance of Pelican and you have the Red Piano, Bucaneer Beach Bar and another one on Kim Sha Beach. You also have the Hollywood Casino there as well. But most of the restaurants are down the hill from Pelican and it's highly recommended that you take a car, at least down the hill so you don't have to walk back up as the hill is long and tiresome. Also, walking down there and back at night can be dangerous with all the cars and possible uninvited guests.

Regarding stores for shopping, you will need a car. Maho has some nice stores and Philipsburg has most of the stores which are open only during the daytime. Maho stores are open in the evening.

There is also the Peli Deli in the Pelican complex for emergency items but too expensive for what most consider grocery shopping. You would need a car for that as well.

Hope this helps.

Once you make the short walk down the hill to Welfare Road there are many bars and restaurants to choose from, in fact the entire strip is just about all bars and restaurants. Try Bonita Cantina for their Monday night pigout, full rack of BBQ ribs, pulled pork, fries all for $10. Lady C's has live music, in season. Pineapple Petes has good food reasonably priced, two for one happy hiour drinks at the Greenhouse and half priced appitizers, the choices are endless. For shopping during the day you can just take a local bus to Philipsburg or Marigot they don't run very late at night, but I have gotten one after 9:00 pm coming back to the Pelican from dinner at Marks.

I never rent a car in SXM and have never had any problems getting around, the bus service is some of the best in the Carib. If you are going out dirnking late at night then you would probably take a cab anyways rather than risk killing yourself or someone else by drinking and driving.

The Pelican Resort has some good restaurants on it's property. They include The Stone, Ciao, and Hollywood Cafe. Very close right on the same beach is Topper's By the Sea at the Flamingo. Next door at La Vista you have The Hideaway. For lunch there is Alexander's and the beach bar serves food. We really had no problem walking down the hill to the Buccaneer Beach Bar or the Greenhouse. There's also a restaurant called Bel Mar across from the Buccaneer but I haven't tried it. Anything not at the Resort or on Billy Folley road we usually take a car. For entertainment there's the Red Piano, and Hollywood Casino at the Pelican.

Toppers is really good.. We just got back !!!! Lobster night is Wed and Broadway show night is Thurs.... Also anjoyed watching Monday Night Football there witht he Waves rolling in behind me and a plamsa in front!!!

I don;t thinkt he walk down the hill is that bad at all... It's a nice walk.. We ate at the Boathouse which was pretty good and there is another Toppers down the hill as well.....

We had a great time at Buccaneer Beach Bar...... They had movie night for the kids on a big Screen and it just seemed like a happening spot - Saw a lot of the local bar tenders, waiters and the Boat staff from Lambada there a few times...

When we walked we actually walked from the Pelican Marina area and took an elavator up to the reception area and then the walk to Bucaneer beach bar was easy and basically flat... Depends where your room is at Pelican...

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but since it is on the same subject...

We will be arriving at Pelican Marina Residences somewhere around 10pm. Are any of the restaurants on the property still open/serving at that time?
