Shopping for food suggestions in Grand Case

We will be in Grand Case next month and are looking forward to trying out all the great restaurant suggestions I've read on the forum. But, we know that we'd like to have some meals in our condo. Does anyone have suggestions regarding delis, fruit/vegetable markets, meat/fish markets in Grand Case? n Where does one purchase Manducho's rum? wine? good coffee? Fresh breads? Thanks in advance for your advice!

You have several choices in GC, but you will not find great selections. Le Bounty is a good deli, nice baguettes. pates, etc. There are a couple of mini markets and one medium size market. You will find a better selection at Match in the Howell center on the north side of Marigot. For the best selection and prices in dollars try Grand Marche on the north side of Phillipsburg. Sorry, can't help you with the rum. Both Match and Grand Marche have large selections of liquor, beer and wine.

We love Bounty for a great deli selection. Lovely folks working there also.

Thank you for both these suggestions. Should we plan to make purchases with cash or with credit card? How do we achieve the best exchange rate?

And one more question...I've heard that the beef in St. Martin is excellent. But I'd been more inclined to look for buys in conch and/or goat meat. Any advice?

There are 10 inches of snow on the ground, more is predicted, and temperatures will hoover well below zero tonight. I can hardly wait;-)

Cash. And you will pay the prevailing exchange rate. That's why many folks get their groceries on the Dutch side.

Most markets do not give a better exchange rate for cash so a credit card is fine.

If they accept CC's. Many small markets don't.

No need to drive all the way to Marigot just for a couple meals in the condo. The local grocers in Grand Case (and there are at least 3 of them) will have plenty of stuff and are seriously not that much more expensive. Nothing beats some fresh gouda, a fresh baguette, a nice bottle of wine and a chaise overlooking the beach...

...and I'm sure you can find all the fruit, veggies, meat and fish you want too :) Have not heard of Manducho's rum, the local stores will sell normal rum brands, at cheaper prices, as well as some homemade-looking stuff as well.

We go to a little store in Grand Case which is a short walk from GCBC. It has about all we need and as mentioned above is only a little higher. Finding good bread in the French side is noooo problem. Have fun

Hi,

We will be arriving in Grand Case next month also, and we too are excited. We've been going to Grand Case for ten years. We've learned to stop at the SUper Match in Marigot on the way from the airport. You will find soda, wine, beer, bottled water, snacks, cheese and coffee cheaper and in more variety. There is also a deli, seafood market and a variety of meats. They are pricey. In Grand Case there are three or four small stores which are fine for a baquette or small items but something such as diet coke or coffee will be twice or more as much as the grocery store in Marigot. You can also use a credit card in Marigot. In case you find yourself in the need of a pharmacy, there is a fine one in Grand Case. We have heard of the huge grocery store in Phillipsburg but the Dutch side is so congested and unnerving we stop in Marigot since we have to drive by it on the way to GRand Case.

We pack a soft cooler with drinks, bottled water and baquette sandwiches when we go to the beach and invest our money in the wonderful restaurants in Grand Case for dinner We bring the soft cooler since we never found one anywhere in St. Martin. A coke at any of the shacks on the beach is going to be expensive and as you know, the dollar isnt doing so well now. There are restaurants in Grand Case which offer 1$ for 1 Euro deals IF you pay in cash. Using a credit card in the restaurants will be charged in Euros and an exchange fee, so we take plenty of dollars.

Have a great time
