Best time to visit the Baths

We have heard that the Baths are very crowed with cruise ship guests at certain times during the day. When is the the best time to visit to avoid these crowds?

The ships are not in every day, but I prefer early morning because the yachting crowd has not arrived yet either.

We went once in the early afternoon and did not like it - way too crowded (and that was off season). A couple of days later, we went at 6:45 am. It was great. We had the whole place to ourselves for about two hours. ASure, we got up a bit early that day, but it was well worth it.

As mentioned, earlier in the morning is the best time to go. Many occasions we did this and had the beach virtually to ourselves.

We were on VG last week and visited the Baths and its surrounding beaches a number of times. We went several times during the late morning and several during the mid-afternoon and we virtually had the beaches to ourselves. It is easy to work around the cruise ship schedule.

Also, the beaches at Savanna and Mahoe are great places to visit, and North Sound has a lot of neat places to explore by dinghy. Or Sandbox, on Prickly Pear Island in North Sound will pick you up for free and they have a great beach - call 495-9122/23.

Where did you find the best/most accurate cruise ship schedule?

There is a Road Town cruise ship schedule at traveltalkonline.com.

We just returned from Gorda and the past two Fridays were very quiet at The Baths - no large cruise ships in Tortola on those days.

By the way, here are some photos of the path from the parking lot down to the Baths, the trail through the Baths to Devil's Bay, and then the hike from Devil's Bay back up to the parking lot: …smugmug.com/gallery/4169118#243510369

And here are some photos of snorkeling the Baths, hiking through the Baths, and then snorkeling Devil's Bay: …smugmug.com/gallery/2449006#128431552

They are one of our favorite places to visit on VG. Have a great trip, alashas
