Help with Nail Bay

Hi Everyone-

In December, my husband and I are staying at Sundowner in Nail Bay. If any of you can clarify, this villa is not part of the Nail Bay Resort. Is that correct? I think I can use the tennis courts and pool there so I am a little confused. What is the name of the beach below this villa? I can't figure it out. I think I read that there are three in Nail but I don't know which ones. Any info about this area would be greatly appreciated!

We are heading to Nail bay this weekend. We have stayed there in the past but it has been a few years. I am pretty sure that you are welcome to use all the facilities, including the Tennis courts and beaches (which are all public) on VG. There is a restaurant onsite and from what I have been reading it is pretty good. The beaches below are Mountain Trunk and to the right Nail Bay beach. Both of these beaches are known form great snorkeling. We love VG and try to go each year. Make sure you see spring bay and Devil's bay ( when there are no cruse boats in town) The Rock is great for dinner and entertainment and the Mine Shaft is the great place for everything.

Nail bay looks out on the Drake Channel - considered one of the most beautiful body''s of water in the world.

You will have a wonderful time. VG is a great place to relax and take in the views and play in the water.

Dont sweat the small stuff it will be great!

Thank you so much for the information! I've been to VG on a few quick trips but stayed on St. John- so I know next to nothing about the particulars. I'm having a great time learning! I hope you enjoy your trip!

We've spent 3 wks on St. John, and around 3 months on VG, so you know our preference (:>)

We've stayed several times in Mahoe Bay villas, the resort you will pass a mile or so before you get to Nail Bay, and have visited Nail several times, including a pleasant and lengthy tour of Nail by the previous management a couple of yrs ago. I haven't been on the NBR website for quite some time, and it looks like they have a new one http://www.nailbay.com/index.php

I believe most, if not all of the villas at NB are privately owned, and I couldn't find Sundowner on the new NB website, but found it on this site, as well as others:

It's not clear if it is managed by NBR, but I don't think you'll have any problems using the pool and tennis court.

You are correct, Nail has 3 beaches, and, I believe Sundowner is on Nail Bay Beach. Here is a photo of NB Beach

You can see from that picture and the one after it that there is quite a bit of shell and coral on the beach, so you'll probably want to wear something on your feet. My understanding is that the better snorkeling beach on NB is Mountain Trunk, the first NB beach

There is a small parking lot before you get to the beach, where you will park and then walk down to the beach.

There is also very good snorkeling at the 3rd beach, Long Bay Beach, north of NB Beach

I have snorkeled that reef by boat and liked it a lot. At the same time, if you read some of my other posts, you'll see that we are very fond of snorkeling Mahoe Bay.

I've been very impressed with Nail Bay, and it is one of the most secluded places to stay on VG. Here are some additional photos

Have a great trip, alashas http://www.youtube.com/user/honeymoon2
