Beaches at Nail Bay Resort

Can anyone tell me if the beaches are soft with no rocks much along the bottom when walking in the water? Can you walk freely in the water without water shoes?

jeanette516,

I posted some photos of the beaches at the Nail Bay Resort when I toured NBR last year:

…smugmug.com/Vacation/Virgin-Gorda-Nail-Bay/

As you can see from the photos, for the most part, the beaches are soft sand. One of the beaches had a lot of shells on it, but not the heavy ironshore you encounter on some beaches in the Caribbean.

Have a great trip, alashas http://www.youtube.com/user/honeymoon2

As alashas noted with words and pictures, the beaches are mostly sand and you do not need water shoes for entry. The beach at Nail Bay and Mountain Trunk are not my favorite beaches on the island in terms of sheer beauty, but snorkeling is quite good, particularly at Mountain Trunk. Note that the outstanding reef off the beach at Mahoe is less than five minutes from there and the very nice beaches at Pond Bay and Savannah Bay are just around the corner from Mahoe. Savannah is particularly lovely with very soft sand, easy shallow entry, a very fine reef, and very cool palapas along the shore.

Also note that the nicest beach in the Nail Bay area, the often overlooked Long Bay, is, at this time, difficult to access. The road down to the beach was washed out in the recent hurricane. You can still walk there from Nail Bay but it is a longish walk, particularly on the uphill way back.

Thanks for your update, ACB, I hadn't heard about the road to Long Bay beach being washed out!

All the best, alashas http://www.youtube.com/user/honeymoon2
