I have not been to either island, but we are planning on going to GC for our honeymoon. We were trying to make the same decision between Aruba and GC, but decided that because we live in a dessert, we could not imagine vacationing in one. My parents just got back from Aruba and from the pictures we could tell we made the right decision. There wasn't any green in sight. They thought it was nice enough, but said they would have preferred GC. Aruba was windy and dusty most of the time. When we were looking at the two, there seemed to be a bit more night life in Aruba. Also Aruba has Casinos and I don't believe GC does. GC has better scenery and diving. Ulitimately it is up to you, but we chose GC over Aruba.

Our family preferred Grand Cayman over Aruba totally. We visited Aruba 2x and GC 9x. We felt the water was clearer in GC and depending on beach area it was about the same in both places.

Opinion: Golf is better in Aruba, snorkeling was similar, scuba better in GC, restaurants price wise--about same, restaurants quality wise--GC won, shopping--about same although Aruba did have more available overall, atmosphere--GC.

I totally agree with Filter14, and we have about the same experience on both islands. We have also been to GC 10+ times and we just got back from our 2nd trip to Aruba.

We prefer GC over Aruba, but I must say that I really enjoyed Aruba on this last trip. (last week)

I would say the biggest difference for us is the fact that we stay in a condo in Grand Cayman and a "hotel" in Aruba. That makes for a very different vacation. We spent MORE money in Aruba due to the hotel amenities.

As far as greenery goes, we noticed that it was much greener in Aruba than in GC. The flowers and trees were more plentiful in Aruba. I always tell people that the beauty in GC is in the water not on the island itself. Don't picture GC to be like Hawaii.

We have been to many islands and I would compare GC and Aruba to be most alike. They are both safe islands where you can eat and drink wherever you like without getting sick. There is no begging. Both islands are clean. I think the people of Aruba go out of their way to be more friendly than the people of GC. The people of GC are not rude but just not as friendly.

Are you staying in a condo or hotel? If you say hotel, I would pick the high-rise area of Aruba. If you say a condo, I would choose Grand Cayman. Like I said, Grand Cayman is my favorite. However, Aruba is very nice too. Have fun!!!

been to both...we liked Aruba (been twice) but prefer GC(been 12 times). Both flat but Aruba is a desert...lots of cactus which we found interesting since we're from the Northeast and don't see cactus.

Aruba is also nice, clean, has friendly atmosphere and wonderful people, but way too commercial for us. We're not into casinos and much prefer staying in a beach front condo to a high rise hotel room.

We have been to both as well, and although I liked Aruba, I much prefer Grand Cayman. The water is definately clearer and more calm. The Beaches were really packed in Aruba too. I also think it's so much easier to walk to restaurants in GC. Some of the better restaurants are in downtown Aruba, and if your staying on Palm Beach it's not walkable. I also really like the people in GC.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel a bit "creeped out" about going to Aruba?

The "Natalie" incident not withstanding, expect that those not engaged in behaviors that might invite trouble definitely won't find it in Aruba. That was (and remains) a horrible incident, but we never felt at all threatened or in danger during our 2 trips to Aruba.

We were just there in August and stayed at the HI. It was nice and clean and the tower we stayed in was rennovated. It was a freak thing that happened and this happens all over............just don't see as much publicity about it.

We were not freaked at all.

We've been there twice and I can't wait to visit GC. As of now Aruba is my favorite destination. Thay may change. I'm really looking forward to GC.

Have been to both islands. My husband and I have taken our three children ages 14-21. It all depends upon what you want........If you like to just sit on the beach or windsurf I would say Aruba.

I agree a hotel in the Palm Beach area near marriott on Aruba would be a good location. Don't need to rent a car. We just took a cab down into Oranjestead for an evening, and spent rest of the nights out at restaurants near our hotel.

Did rent a jeep for a day to tour around the north part of the island. Windsurfing is great, the Marriott Resort and Casino has a Vela Windsurfing shop and they are great - will set you up for the week. We did not stay at the Marriott and they still took very good care of us. There are plenty of beach rentals up in that area of Aruba.

If you like snorkeling or diving, Aruba is not the place for you. Grand Cayman is the best I've seen. We also stayed at a hotel there along 7 mle beach. We did rent a car and went snorkeling to several different areas. Also did the Sting Ray City boat trip, which was fun. don't know about the windsurfing there.

I have been to Aruba also. We are leaving for GC in a couple weeks so I cannot compare the two yet but I will tell you I think they have a lot in common. Both islands have reputations for being friendly, safe, relaxing and you can eat and drink without getting sick. These are the most important things to us. We stayed on Eagle Beach in Aruba and after visiting Palm beach we were glad we chose Eagle Beach. The high rise area was full of tourists and more crowded. There were very few Americans where we stayed and we often were the only ones on the beach watching the sunset. We absolutely loved Aruba but decided there are a lot of other places we want to visit so we chose Grand Cayman this time. We would go back to Aruba in a heartbeat. By the way, we were there in May 2005 (just a few days before the Natalie incident) and we felt very safe on the island. Tough decision. Good Luck!
