Aruba or Grand Cayman

So you know the anticipation of getting away is a great feeling... well first we were going to go to Aruba in early December, but now my husband said a co worker of his has been to GC and says it's great. If anyone one can give me feedback to help with our decision that'd be so helpful. And by the way, it's our 1st time to both places. Thank you, thank you!

Hello...

We had a nice time in G.C. and were glad that we went- for the diving especially.

I sent you a message.

It's like comparing apples and oranges. Although both are islands they have different "styles". GC is more laid back, not a spring break type of place, no casinos and not big on nightlife like clubs. It has fantastic restaurants, great marine life, is very safe and very friendly. It really depends on what rocks your socks!

LOL! The same thing happened to us - we had planned to go to Curacao for our annual end of summer vacation, but after booking the rooms and getting excited to leave, a coworker just returned from her first trip to Grand Cayman and she was raving about it - she was already making plans to go back this winter! So, we changed plans and are now going to GC instead and are much happier about our decision. It seems that gc has great people, excellent restaurants, fun activities and good hotel and condo choices. Plus the airfare is cheaper and its closer to home. We can't wait till August 30th!

We just came back from GC on Saturday (first time) and had a fantastic time. It's very low key, shops in Georgetown close early (5pm) and there is not alot to do after dinner time. Great restaurants and the day snorkeling, scuba diving and relaxing is just perfect. We loved Aruba and compared during this trip. We chose Aruba because of "more to do", but it was close. I have 2 teenage boys and we are a family that likes to sightsee and tour almost more than beach- Aruba has more to do. If you like water- especially snorkeling, GC is the best.

Hope that helps.

Grand Cayman has the most beautiful beach I've ever seen! That's comparing it to Cancun, Tulum, Maui, Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai, St. Thomas, St. Martin, Nassau, Jamaica and Florida. It is known for some of the best diving and snorkeling around! Also, the restaurants are fantastic! I've really never had any desire to go to Aruba.

I haven't been to any of the places that you listed, but we have been to Aruba 6 times in the last 3 years and we picked Grand Cayman b/c we were told that it would be the closest feel to Aruba...I saw some similarities, but not enough to put it above Aruba...JMO ;)

Have been to both GC and ARuba and think that they have different feels. Aruba clearly doesn't have the height restrictions on buildings that GC has so you see higher and bigger resorts. In Aruba there are different beach areas (Eagle, Palm, etc.) that the hotels are clustered around where in GC the majority of the hotels are along SMB or the East End. We found snorkeling (we don't dive) to be much bettter in GC. There is more nightlife in Aruba and it also has casinos, if that matters to you.

Our family preferred Grand Cayman over Aruba totally. We visited Aruba 2x and GC 10+x. We felt the water was clearer in GC and depending on beach area it was about the same in both places.

Opinion: Golf is better in Aruba, snorkeling was similar, scuba better in GC, restaurants price wise--about same, restaurants quality wise--GC won, shopping--about same on any savings although Aruba did have more available overall, nightlife--Aruba which has casinos and many, many bars and atmosphere--GC.

I guess its all about your perception- we just returned from our first trip to G.C and we have been to Aruba 6 times in the last 3 years-going again in Oct... I agree with you about the snorkeling(diving)- Grand Cayman is the winner. As for Marine Life that you see one vs the other, I looked through past underwater pictures from Aruba and the only thing that we saw in G.C. that we haven't seen in Aruba was 1 Nurse Shark and 1 Caribbean Reef Shark- those things are just the luck of the draw- We also made 21 dives in Grand Cayman (lack of other things to to IMO) compared to our usual 12-13 per trip in Aruba.

As far as food is concerned I was not impressed with any of the meals we had in Grand Cayman. The cost of dining out in G.C. was much higher and b/c of that we didn't do a lot of it. For us GREAT food doesn't make or break a vacation, but when you are paying top dollar for your meal I do expect to enjoy it. Maybe we went to the wrong places to eat, but I would have thought that one out of the meals we had would be something to rave about.

I don't want this to sound like we didn't enjoy Grand Cayman, but we found ourselves constantly comparing it to Aruba and for us Aruba will still be the perfect vacation spot for us as I'm sure Grand Cayman will be perfect for others. Sorry if I offended any Grand Cayman Lovers...not my intention.
