Cheap Accommodation

Hi, Does anyone know if there is anywhere on the island that is not a resort. We are planing to travel and looking also where to stay in a weeks on Grand Cayman and dive but it all seems to be so expensive. Are there dive shops that have their own accommodation?

Any help would be great.

Thanks…

My personal fave is Compass Point, Ocean Frontiers. Find out when they are running one of their specials. You'll keep coming back!

Sunset House is a true haven for divers and the location right in GT makes it ideal if you don't want to rent a car. There is probably more experience in that shop that anywhere else you can find. The shore diving is fantastic as well. I am not sure what the units offer (ie kitchenette, etc.,) , but you also have My Bar which has good food. I think they do specials for divers who are staying there. It is also not an expensive ride from the airport. If I was looking for great diving that would not hurt the budget, that would be my choice hands down. If you get any of the dive mags, you will find Sunset House prominently featured on a regular basis.

If you don't need to stay at the "dive" resort, you can stay at a B&B etc., and check out a place like Cayman Diving School. They do fantastic packages for multiple days. We have hundreds of dives on the island and I feel your pain with the cost -- we are always a tleast, but if the kids and their friends come, can be six -- it certainly adds up.

I think all the ops are great -- when are you planning on going. During the winter months I would not opt for a dive holiday on the East End only because of winds. All the ops will get you out, but the sites are first come first serve, so those with further to travel don't always get their choice. That said diving East is fantastic and different from what you will find west, north and south -- each has its own mystique!

Another "dive lodge" is Cobalt Coast with DiveTech: http://www.cobaltcoast.com/

Other inexpensive non-dive op locations, but close to plenty of dive ops:

Harbour View Apartments: http://www.harbourviewapartments.com/

Comfort Suites: http://www.caymancomfort.com/en/

Sunshine Suites: http://www.sunshinesuites.com/

The Reef Resort (on East End): http://www.thereef.com/en/index.html

Treasure island Condos: http://www.ticondos.com/Rates/

VRBO/FlipKey/HomeAway or TripAdvisor Vacation rental by owner site. Northwest Point and George Town would be two less expensive locations still close to many dive ops.

Plus, check Priceline and Hotwire for deals. Comfort Suites, Sunshine Suites and the Marriott are some of the regular properties featured.
