South Bay Beach Club vs. Beachcomber

We stayed at Beachcomber previously and loved everything about it: the condo, the beach, the low density and the great location right across from grocery and coffee shop. Looking to return next winter but it is so pricey that I was looking at South Bay Beach Club as a slightly less expensive alternative. Just wondering if we would be as happy with the beach and location there.

In my opinion, the beach at the SBBC does not compare to the Beachcombers....depth and width of beach, and especially density. SBBC is directly next door to the Marriott, with a small area in between for the guests of Comfort Suites.

The beach is narrower at SBBC and they don't have as much beach frontage, but they don't have many rental units and the beach is all sandy. Convenient location and good snorkeling too, so its still a great choice.

The condo units are just as nice (and are newer).

The $200/night you save at SBBC pays for a lot of meals and/or activities, so it is definitely something to consider. Up to you whether a prime central location is worth the extra cost or not.

If you really want nice accomodations in the central area, don't overlook Coral Stone Club, Casa Carib, Islands Club or Cayman Club. While not the newest, all are very fine properties which were considered to be the most upscale before the new monstrosities were built.

Thanks for the alternative suggestion, but most of those properties are just as expensive as, if not more, than Beachcomber ( with a 10% past guest discount). Was looking at SBBC because of the better rate.

Stayed at SBBC last summer and loved it - never a problem with beach chairs and really liked being 50 feet from waters edge

Although SBBC is new and nice, as people who enjoy larger beach area and proximity to grocery store, many fine restaurants within walking distance of Beachcomber, ability to take leisurely beach strolls either to the north or south, staying in the Central area of SMB would be preferable.

Thanks for all the input. We decided to give SBBC a try even though we loved Beachcomber and the location. The cost difference was huge between the two. ( We also looked at Coral Stone which was priced about the same as Beachcomber.) We were able to secure an excellent rate at SBBC and could not pass it up. While I know the beach is smaller and more crowded, for the price difference during high season we feel the trade off is worth it. I was able to get non stop airfare (even flying business one way and economy plus back) AND condo for the price I would have otherwise paid for condo alone at the pricier places. We will rent a car either way so getting around is not a big issue.

As many times repeat GC condo vacationers who always stay in Central SMB area, also often look at nearby alternatives with similar amenities at lower cost. VERY much looking forward to your trip report!
