seven mile beach

We are potentially switching our 20th anniversary trip in mid-may from Puerto Vallarta to Grand Cayman. Right now we're looking at staying at tropical breeze B&B in breakers. Just a couple questions. I understand the beach just across the road from our B&B is on the rocky side. Does one just go to seven-mile beach or is it only for the hotels on seven-mile beach? Also, I assume we need a car for CI? thanks!

If you are staying in Breakers a car is a must to get around the island. There are a few of Public Beaches along Seven Mile Beach, one next to the Governor's Mansion in the central area , another a bit further north in West Bay and Cemetary Beach even further north, all of which you are welcome to use. There are free public parking areas at the first two and easy street parking at Cemetary Beach. The beach in front of the hotels and condos is public up to the high water mark so you can stroll or swim in those areas. The chairs, pools etc are reserved for their guests. You could also take a drive to the beach at Rum Point. Rum Point and the West Bay Publc Beach become very crowded with cruise ship passengers so pln your visits for days and times thet the cruise folks will not be there. You can check the cruise ship schedule at caymanport.com

no question that the beach areas that are best are along SMB and if not staying at a condo or hotel located in that area you are pretty much limited to Public Beach in West Bay or Governor's Beach. If at all possible I suggest you look into staying at places located along SMB...many wonderful beachfront condo options available and many are listed at caymanvactions.com.

There are some wonderful deals to be had a present and if you stay along the central SMB area, you could get away without a car, and there are lots of places within walking distance.

The Tropical Breeze B&B is in a funny location. The "beach" if you can call it that across the street is very rocky and small, almost right on the road. There is nothing within walking distance and you have to drive to get anywhere. However, you are in the middle of the island and are within a half hour or so ride from SMB or from the East End. Have fun!

I just took a look at Tropical Breeze. It looks nice. I may be out of the norm, but I don't really want to be in the middle of 7MB. We have stayed on the south end of 7MB for our 4 visits, and have loved it. As more members of our family want to join in on our trips, we may have to consider somewhere like Tropical Breeze as an option.

We are not really beach sitters or pool people. We tend to be in the water snorkeling all the time. I don't care if I have a pool as long as I'm surrounded by ocean! We have always had a car for our entire visit, and we love to explore the island. There are public beaches all over the island that you can use if your beach isn't sufficient for your needs.

If you stay here, you should definitely get a car. There are some really cheap rates if you are willing to take one of the small cars.

Stay on seven mile beach in a condo. Snorkeling is pretty good just off Georgetown at "Eden Rock". Rent a car and go where and when you want. Have fun.....

allovescayman: We don't want to be in the middle of Seven Mile Beach, either. We stay in the Northern end for 2 weeks each September, away from the commercialism and large concrete properties on top of each other that are not at all reminiscent of the Cayman we first visited so many years ago. As a matter of fact, we are also in the midst of researching properties on the NorthSide and Rum Pont areas for a extra visit next Spring ( thanks for your help, Sue). It's time for us to give that part of the island a try!

As a longtime and many times central SMB squatter, I think people ought to realize that any stay in a condo in that prime area equals fabulous sandy beachfront, terrific convnience, and NO crowded situation even during the busiest time of the year. No need for a rental car, although we have one for the duration of our stays, and suggest people getting one for at least a couple of days for easy & convenienc access to visit other areas of the island.
