Barrier Reef visit - worth it?

I will be going to GC end of August with a 9 and 11 year old. Do you think it is worth it to go to the Barrier Reef or just stick with Stingray city and snorkel around by 7MB? How deep is it at the Reef?

Thanks!

Many tour operators have the barrier reef as second stop after visiting Sting Ray City. Water is 6 -12 feet deep.

There is a good chance of seeing a moray, eagle rays etc in the North Sound . The snorkeling spot are just inside the reef and there is more life on the corals on there than you will find just snorkeling along SMB where there are not as many nooks and crannies for provide homes for fish. If your kids like snorkeling definitely go for it. If you google the GC Barrier Reef you will find lots of info and pictures as well as first hand accounts from other visitors!

We did the Capt Dexter Fantasia stingray trip that stopped at the reef on the way back from stingray sandbar (There was a Redsail boat that was next to us at both stops as well). Very clear water and lots of different fish. Well worth it. The attached photoset has about a dozen pictures taken at the coral gardens reef of that stop: flickr.com/photos/…

I just went in July and it is awesome. I also had it attached to the String Ray trip. We saw a puffer/blow fish. It puffed up then down and swam away. It was pretty cool to snorkel there. Definitely worth going to.

Hi,

Great pictures of the underworld! Which camera did you use? We are going on a cruise this month to the Caribbean.

Thanks
