Walking versus taxi question from Marriott

Really appreicate all the help I've received from this forum. We're still debating the car rental thing. If we wanted to walk (we're at the Marriott) to restaurants from the Marriot to Westin, approximately how far and can you walk on the beach or are there sidewalks.

And if you went into GEorgetown to eat, what would the taxi rate be? Would it be safe to take the bus home in the evening? Finally, around Ostera Bay restaurant area, would anyone know about the taxi cost?

If you don't really want to rent a car and are staying on SMB, one suggestion is to get settled in your hotel or condo and scope out the area to determine if you can get by walking or via taxi or bus options. If not, there are car rental options on SMB you can utilize. While a 2 mile walk, $25 cab rise of 25 minute bus ride might be par for the course for some, others may not find that to be the case.

Osetra Bay is up in Morgan's Harbor. A cab to/from there and the Marriott will add at least $50 US to your evening tab, probably more. A taxi to/from a meal in George Town will add about $25 US to the cost of your evening. We rent a car for our 2 week stay but always use a driver for dinner. The cost really adds up but we choose to spend the money, will not drink and drive.

I personally would not utilize the bus but it appeals to others.

If there is a restaurant along Seven Mile Beach that you want to walk to, you can use either the sidewalk :) or walk along the beach. The area is known to be safe but always use the same common sense precautions that you would use at home.

I would highly recommend renting a car. It's easy to get around the island and walking to and from restaurants will take some time. There is so much to see, a car is well worth it.

In Cayman right now. If you don't mind, walking is fine and safe. Also a good way to work off some of your meal! There are always people about. I have never had a problem with the bus either. Have walked from the Beachcomber (near Ritz and Westin) to Cimbocco, Agua,Ragazzi's even though we have a car! For us, it is nice to be outside, getting exercise, and enjoying a bottle of wine, with no driving worries.
