Cockleshell beach question

Hi

Just wondering about cockleshell beach...How much is it to get there with a cab from the cruise port? How much is it for chairs to rent?

Also by chance - is this the same beach that the Carnival Beach Break excursion goes to? If so, it might be cheaper to do it on our own.

Is there a public bus or van that locals use to get around? or it easier just to take a cab to the beach? Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for your reply!

One-way taxi fare from Cruise ship dock (in Basseterre) to Cockleshell Beach is about $28US for 1 to 4 passengers - if you have 5 or more in your group fare is $7US per person each way.

Sorry, never been on a Carnival Cruise so don't know which beach the "Carnival Beach Break" excursion visits - it could be Cockleshell or South Friars Beach - all I can tell you is passengers from cruise ships go to both.

There are no public busses/vans that go to/from any of the beaches on the southern peninsula (where all the major beaches are located) - the only way to get there is by taxi, rental car or organized group tour.

To rent chairs at Reggae Beach Bar on Cockleshell is $5 USD.

Carnival goes to Frigate Bay.

Definitely take a taxi to the beach. Contact PEREIRA TOURS at lizpereiratours@yahoo.com or grab one of the taxi drivers when you disembark.

I just came back from a Carnival Cruise and took a cab that was at the cruise port. It is $14 round trip and you have to pay the whole amount when the driver drops you off. He asked when we wanted to be picked up. We had to chooses a time that everyone agreed on. The Carnival Cruise people were at the same beach but a little further over. I would book this ride on your own. You can get a free picnic table under a palm tree. There is a decent bathroom and an outside shower. THe drive to this beach was pretty amazing!!

A lot of people snorkel at Cockleshell. It's not the best place on island but it is good.
