How to book a Ferry?

Our flight into Nevis has been changed. We are now arriving at 5:11pm on Saturday October 20th. We are staying in St. Kitts for 3 nights before our stay on Nevis. Will we be able to find a ferry out after 5pm on a Saturday? Can we book it in advance? How do we get to the Ferry from the Airport? How much time should we allow to get luggage, and get to the Ferry?

Thanks

Yes , there are ferries after 5PM. You can get ferry schedules on this wesite:

I'm a bit confused by your post. If you are staying in St. Kitts before going to Nevis why are you concerned about getting from the airport to the ferry? Wouldn't be going from your hotel to the ferry?

The ferry leaves from the dock in Basseterre which is about a 10 minute cab ride from the airport. There will be plenty of cabs at the airport. Just walk out the door from after you clear customs and the cabs will be standing by the curb. If you are actually going from your St. Kitts hotel to the airport just ask the concierge or front desk clerk to arrange for a taxi at the appropriate time.

No, you can't book the ferry in advance - it operates on a "just show up basis". Don't worry, there's always plenty of room. When you arrive at the dock you purchase your ticket at the kiosk, pay your Port Tax at the widow behind the kiosk and wait with the other passengers until the ferry begins boarding. Follow the same process if you are going from Nevis to St. Kitts.

As far as luggage is concerned, upon landing in St. Kitts you will first go through the immigration checkpoint. Depending on the number of people being processed it can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. From there you proceed downstairs to the baggage claim area. Your checked bags should be on the carrosel about 10 to 15 minutes after landing. Clearing customs will take only a few minutes, again depending on how many people are in front of you.

Oh, I just realized that you are flying into Nevis and taking the ferry to St. Kitts for the first part of your stay. If that's the case, the procees is essentially as described except after clearing Immigration you walk about 10 feet to the luggage carrosel insted of going to the lower level as you would in St. Kitts. There will be plenty of taxis waitng when you exit the customs area. The cab from the airport to the ferry dock in Charlestown will take about 15 minutes. You purchase your ferry ticket at the ticket kiosk which is located in a courtyard at the end of the dock. There is a seperate kiosk where you pay your Port tax just by the entrance where the line forms for boarding the ferry.

Yes that is right. Our new plan is to fly into Nevis arriving at 5:11pm. Take Ferry to St. Kitt and stay four nights at the Marriott. Then take the Ferry to Nevis Four Seasons for the rest of our vacation. We are thinking of taking the Ferry from St. Kitts to Nevis through The Four Seasons water taxi. We then will be flying home from Nevis. We are flying on Frequent Flyer miles, that is why we are flying into and out of Nevis and not flying into St. Kitts. They did not have any seats on the flight to St. Kitts. I do not think that the Four Seasons will do a round trip from Nevis to St. Kitts if we are not staying with them first.

The Four Seasons water taxi service is "different" than the regular ferry service. If you are planning to take it to Nevis after your stay on St. Kitts you coordinate your travel times directly with the Four Seasons. They will take care of everything for you and tell you everything you need to know about meeting places, times, etc. Since you'll be staying with them as a guest you could also ask them if they will take you to St. Kitts after your plane arrives on Nevis - it doesn't hurt to ask as the worse that can happen is they say "no". The thing is they normally don't have a boat going to St. Kitts at the time and they may not want to make a special trip unless you are willing to pay the extra costs. They normally charge around $85US PP for a one-way trip. If the 4S water taxi is not available for you than your only alternative is the regular Nevis/St. Kitts ferry from Charlestown or taking a private water taxi from Oualie Beach (contact Oualie Beach Watersports on their website for pricing information).

What to do??? What to do??? We are going to do the Ferry going to St. Kitts, but coming from St. Kitts to Nevis is up in the air. I would love to do the Four Seasons Private Boat right to the Four Seasons. I just have it in my head that it would be soooo cool to have a drink on the boat, check in, and pull up to the Hotel's private launch. Then have them take us to our room. On the other hand, check in is not until 3 pm, so we could catch an early Ferry, rent a car, and do our own island tour and stop at the store for staples and then check in to our Hotel at 3pm. We also would have the car for the night, so we could go to one of the Plantations for Dinner, and not have to get a taxi, and return the car in the morning. I just do not want to miss a once in a lifetime experience, and we probable will not be going back. With so much to see, we tend not to redo vacations. What do you thin?

You can actually have the best of both worlds. Take the 4S ferry. If you arrive before check-in time your room may be ready and they will take you to your room. If it isn't they will take your luggage and have it brought to your room as soon as the room is ready - it will be waiting for you whe you arrive. In the meantime you can make arrangements for the car rental company to bring the car to the hotel where you fill out the paperwork. You can then explore the island a bit before returning to the hotel to complete the check-in process and have the staff escort you to your room. The 4S is a full service resort and they will do anything to accomodate your needs and make your stay exactly as you want it.

StuLaurie,

Seems your vacation is not going to get off to a good start !

Let me just clarify something.......You arrive in Nevis but are spending the first part of you vacation in St Kitts? You are then spending the second half at the FS Nevis. OK.....Here's an alternative.......What about taking the 10 minute water taxi from Oualie Beach Resort in Nevis to Turtle Beach in St Kitts??? You would then only have to take a taxi to the Marriott and return to TB to go back to Nevis. It will work out as a round trip fare and would work out more economical. If you need more information on the water taxi that i recommend, then please email me on chevvi@yahoo.com. Amelia
