First Time Visit

I will be honeymooning in Nevis at the end of May. It will be our first time to Nevis and the Caribbean. . We are staying at Montpelier. We will definately eat at the inn a couple times. Where do you think we should eat dinner the remaining 3 or 4 nights? Also, what do you think are the best 2-3 outdoor activities? Thanks!

Where you have your other dinners depends on what type of dining experience you are seeking. Here's some suggestions:

For upscale dining:

Hermitage Inn

Goden Rock Inn

Mount Nevis Hotel

Nisbet Great House

Coral Grill or Neve (at the Four Seasons)

Casual dining:

Gallipot - (open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays)

Oualie Beach

Pizza Beach

Indian Summer

Yachtsman Grill

Chrishi Beach - may not be open for dinner in May

Mango - (at Four Seasons - call ahead to make sure they are serving dinner the the night you want to dine)

Local Food:

Ole House Cafe

Mem's Pizza

Rodney's Cuisine

Ocean Bistro

Beach Bars -

Sunrise Beach Bar

Double Deuce (assuming they have reopened in their new location)

Chinese Food -

Gold Coast

Tea room

Excellent Fast Food

For activities, consider the following:

1/2 snorkel day sail on the Catamaran Caona

Deep sea fishing

Hobie Cat Rental

Jet ski rental

Hike to top of Nevis Peak (you'll need a guide for this)

Explore any of the many ruins around the island

Scuba Diving

Search for the ghost while you explore the ruins at the Eden Brown Estate

Hiking - There are will over 50 different hikes and trails scattered around the island many will take you to old ruins hidden deep in the rain forest.

Visit the ruins of Fort Charles, Cottle Church or New River Sugar Plantation

Take a taxi tour of the island.

Visit Admiral Nelson's Lookout atop Saddle Hill and while you are there explore the remains of the ramparts and old fort. Search also for the grave marker of Phillpa Prentice who came to Nevis in 1634 in search of a husband and eventually became the mistress of a Sugar Plantation before she died in 1683 - read the book Rivers in Time by Dr. June Goodfield to learn more about this fascinating story and the early settlers on Nevis.

Check out the NewCastle Pottery

Visit Windward Beach

Plus much. much more!!!

Best island honeymoon activity IMHO :

Private charter on the sloop Feisty. The skipper does half day, full day or sunset sails. Call Miles on +1 869 664 9171

One thing we really enjoyed doing this year was taking a walk with a guide into the rainforest. We have done this on St. Kitts a few times, but always walked on our own in Nevis before this year.

It was arranged by our inn (the Hermitage) and I'm sure Montpelier can recommend someone. It's always interesting to listen to the guide's stories about growing up on the island, and mixed in with his descriptions of plants and trees, hearing him talk about what he and his friends used to do with the fruits etc. when they were kids.

Another recommendation I have is to go to Peak Heaven. It is a lovely spot on the East Coast of the island where Mr. Hebert and his daughter have some chattel houses among garden paths where they have recreated and assembled items and furnishings from the "old" days. It's informative and fun. You can also choose to go on a rainforest (or volcano) hike from there. We didn't have lunch there but we hope to on our next visit. Go on a clear day so you can see Montserrat clearly.

Oualie Beach has most of the sports that CaribSurfer mentioned--bikes, kayaks, fishing, etc.

One thing about restaurants--casual dining does not necessarily mean lower-cost dining. I think our bill at Bananas was about the same as at Gallipot, for example. The menu at the Yachtsman Grill looked to be about the same cost as at places with more "atmosphere."

The Hermitage usually has pizza on Friday and Saturday nights cooked in their wood-fired oven. It's excellent. And on Wednesday nights they usually have their West Indian buffet featuring a pig roast. They have fish entrees as well.

Many places in Nevis have a special event night. Ask about your options when you get there. (Mt. Nevis has Mexican night, Cafe des Arts is open two nights a week for burger night, Nisbet has a seafood buffet on Thursdays etc.) Call ahead to make reservations, not so much for space but to let them know you're coming and to verify any specials.

Congratulations, and enjoy your trip.

I would also add Lime Cafe to the list of beach bars. It's become our favorite after we got dissed at Sunshine's a couple of times.

Just returned from Nevis, and our favorite restaurant was The Patio run by a delightful local named Hope. Food and service were wonderful. Nice breeze blowing both nights we went. It's located next to super foods grocery just south of the downtown area. All of the meals we had on the island were great. We also ate at Mt. Nevis hotel--very refined and elegant. Also enjoyed Pizza Beach on north end of island by the airport--great food. Great food at Chrishi Beach Bar at Cade's Bay as well.

Had a wonderful beach and trail ride on horseback offered by the Nevis equestrian center near Cades bay. Horses were very well behaved. Got to see some of the historic sugar mill ruins as well as deserted beaches. Wonderful experience.

We also hiked up from Golden Rock Plantation in the rain forest. You don't need a guide. We asked for a map at the hotel and found the trail with only a couple of wrong turns. Had a very nice lunch at the hotel after a 3-hour hike.

Mem's is currently closed for renovations. Gallipot is closed for the summer? Indian summer is a fairly new Indian restaurant on west side of island. Quite good. Other places close for the summer, or close on random nights. Always call ahead!!!
