Best resort in Nevis??

We're planning a fall trip and trying to decide on a destination. I would love recommendations for resorts in Nevis. We like luxury and outstanding customer service/pampering. Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks.

Well, it depends, of course, on your definition of "best".

Most people will tell you the Four Seasons is the "best" resort on Nevis. It is the most upscale resort on the island and they are known for very personalized and attentive service. The entire resort was completely renovated about 18 months ago with all new furnishings, fabrics and bedding (think fine antiques coupled upscale modern day furnishings and marbled baths). The grounds and gardens are impeccably maintained. There's on-site tennis courts, a Championship Golf Course, a complete Fitness Center and full service Spa. They definitely will pamper you and there is nothing the staff won't do to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They will cater to your every whim and desire. The word "no" is not in their vocabulary. All of that "special service" comes at a price, it is the most expensive resort on the island and you will pay dearly to stay there. The resort is not for the budget minded.

Nisbet Beach Plantation is a step down from the Four Season - significantly less expensive this 38 room beach front resort continually gets high marks for their friendly and attentive service. The rooms are nicely furnished but no where near as luxurious as the ones at the Four Seasons. The grounds are nicely landscaped but not as attractive as at the Four Seasons. Consider staying here if you find the prices at the Four seasons are too rich for your budget.

The only other places that might meet your definition of "best" (meaning luxury and attentive service) will be either Montpelier Plantation or Golden Rock Inn. These are very small (about 12 rooms each) Inns up on the slopes of Nevis Peak. They both offer attentive service and a "touch" of luxury but they are not really "full service resorts" nor are they in the same class as the Four Seasons. For what it is worth, the late Princess Diana stayed at Montpelier when she visited the island many years ago. Consider either Inn if you like staying small, intimate "boutique" hotels and don't mind not have all the amenities you'd get at a full service resort.

None of the other hotels/resorts on the island can be described as luxurious and while the respective staffs are friendly and accommodating, you simply won't get the "pampering" you desire.

The Condos at Nelson Springs has a "rental program" and they do advertise themselves as being an upscale resort. But, they are , in fact, privately owned beachfront and beach access condos, some of which are in a rental pool. There is a small "on-site" staff that will assist tourists who rent the units but to call it a "resort" is a bit misleading.

I would have to disagree, whilst 4 seasons is highly impressive, the gap between them is far less.

I would most probably suggest montpelier if you want to have the exclusive feel. That said, nisbet is lovely, beach waters are lightly choppy, the beach restaurant is very good, the dining at night is very formal.

Golden rock with the new face lift is wonderful, you don't have the mosquito issues that 4 seasons does as its above the bug line. Eating at night under the stars in very romantic. Finally I would not disregard the hermitage, it too has a wonderful old charm feel, very attentive hosts, and good food.

It really depends what sort of vacation you like, and if you want to be on the beach.

Ps we've been to all 4 places in the last 7 years.

I have to disagree with William - while I like Nisbet (we stayed there often when building our home) lately it has "slipped" a bit from its past glory. It is nice but OP asked for "the best" and Nisbet doesn't quite make the grade as of late.

So, the "best" beachfront resort on Nevis right now is the Four Seasons. Hermitage, Golden Rock and Montpelier are all up on the mountain, not on or near the beach.

I have met some people that have had a 2 place destination, they experience the Olde world charm that Nevis is loved for and pick one of the Inns, and then do the beach holiday.. Just a thought.

That said I am pretty sure you would be delighted with 4 seasons, it has a lovely vantage point of st kitts and a lovely beach.

Which ever place you choose you will have a wonderful time on the island.

If you are so inclined, why not consider a villa? There are a number of deluxe villas that can provide "in house" service of your own cook, driver/guide, housekeeper, etc. You would gain privacy as well as first class service if you are willing to do a little research. Start here: http://www.nevisforum.com/

You may find that such accommodation is equal to (or less) than the 4S.

Give it a try if even slightly adventurous. Cheers, Richard.
