Nisbet plantation resort

We have booked holiday at Nisbet Plantation Resort at the end of October 2013.

There are not many recent reviews for this hotel. Can anyone tell me if the hotel will be offering full service at the end of October. We have full board booked,Iwould appreciate any comments about what kind of food to expect, reports says its good but not what kind of food. Can anyone tell me what prices the drinks are, soft drinks as well as alcoholic, like cocktails and wine.

We would like to see the island, will it be possible to do much by hiring bikes or is it best to hire a car or use taxis. Can you tell me what are the best things to do on the island. We like wildlife and walking. This is our first time to Nevis. Any information will be gratefully received.

Nisbet is one of the best resorts on the island - it consistently gets rated in the Top Ten Caribbean Resorts by Travel & Leisure Magazine, & Conde Nast, it's the number one rated Nevis resort on TripAdvisor and has a 4 Diamond Rating from AAA.

The food at dinner is high end "gourmet". The menu changes daily and you'll have a 4 course meal with a choice of 3 or 4 appetizers, a salad, 4 entrees and 3 or 4 deserts. Lunch is somewhat upscale with some locally inspired dishes as well as the usual "beach bar" food like burgers, ribs, wings, pizza, etc. Breakfast is your choice of 2 or 3 "specials plus eggs, hot & cold cereals, fruits and pastries.

Soft drinks & beer cost around $5US, regular cocktails run in the $8US to $12US range, exotic cocktails run about $12US to $14US. Wine, by the glass, runs anywhere anywhere from $7US to $15 depending on type and vintage. Wine by the bottle, runs anywhere from $25US to $100's, again depending on bottler and vintage. FYI -these prices are pretty standard at upscale places around the island. Depending on where you go beach bar places around the island will be similar or a couple dollars less.

You can rent bikes but unless you are very fit and avid bicyclists they are not a viable means of getting around the island. Roads are narrow, twisty with no sidewalks, often very steep in places, not well lit at night and we have more than our fair share of potholes. Also, it gets quite hot here during the day and so it's not unusual to see a couple of tourists wearing sweat drenched clothes and tired looks on their faces as they walk their bikes up some steep hill. For what it is worth, the local biking enthusiasts do their bike riding very early in the morning (usually between 5:30AM and 7:00AM) so they are finished before the sun gets too hot - you NEVER see them biking during the day - that should tell you something!

You'd be much better off renting a car or using taxis to get around and see all the island has to offer. One word of advice - using taxis can get expensive, 2 or more round trips a day in a taxi will cost you as much or more than the daily rate for a rental car.

Click on the "Things to Do" link at the top of this page for a list of the 35 top items. Also go to www.nevis1.com and read everything there - you'll find a wealth of information. By the way, the Activities Director at Nisbet will be glad to make arrangements for you to rent a car, call you a taxi, hire a hiking guide, set up snorkeling or diving excursions, daysails, etc.
