Food/Alcohol shopping

Do the stores on Nevis sell wine/beer/alcohol? If so are they open on Sundays?

Thank you. The information you have provided about the island is AWESOME! Have you any thoughts on the scenic rail ride?

The scenic rail ride is on St, Kitts not Nevis (your posts suggest you are staying on Nevis). It's an interesting tour and usually it caters to the cruise ship crowd.

Personally, I think there are much better ways to see St. Kitts. We usually take our house guests over to St. Kitts and hire a local taxi driver guide for a private tour of the island - you'll move along at your own pace, see all the major points of interest around the island and even have time for a nice leisurely lunch at Otley's Plantation (highly recommended) or one of the many beach bars. You can take the passenger ferry (inexpensive - about $11US each way PP) for the 45 minute trip between Charlestown and Basseterre. A 2.5 hour private taxi tour will run you $60US (for up to 4 people or $15US PP if you have 5 or more in your party), a 4 hour tour will run you $80US for up to 4 people or $20US if you have 5 or more in your party. Longer tours are done on an hourly rate of $30US for up to 4 people or $7.50US PP if 5 or more in your party. FYI - there will be plenty of taxi driver/guides meeting the ferry.

Of course, you could always rent a car and drive yourself around the island. If you have a rental car on Nevis you can take it over to St. Kitts on the Seabridge Car Ferry - just make sure your car rental company will allow you to take your rental car on the ferry - most do, some don't. Driving yourself is a good way to see the island but you have to set your own itinerary, deciding what you want to see and then navigate the roads yourself and you won't get to hear any of the interesting "local history" from the taxi driver.
