What MUST we see and do while on Nevis

We've spent plenty of time on St Kitts over the years, but have never really explored Nevis. We will be staying at The Hermitage for 3 nights in January and would appreciate suggestions for any places that should be on our To Do list. We like seeing old places, rainforest walks, local places to eat etc

Look forward to hearing your recommendations

Thank you

First - go to www.nevis1.com - you'll find lots of information on things to see & do on Nevis as well as some info on restaurants.

Second - use the "Things to do" link at the top of this page - you'll find info and hundreds of reviews about 36 of the top points of interest around the island.

Third - Use the "Restaurants" and you'll find hundreds of reviews of the 36 top restaurants on the island.

Now for hiking - there are also over 40 different hiking trails around the island - stop at the Tourist Information Office (next to the Post Office) in Charlestown and ask for a trail map

We've stayed at the Hermitage a few times. Definitely eat there at dinner, at least once. If you're there on a Wednesday, don't miss their roast pig barbecue buffet. There are loads of local style side dishes offered as well as fish for the non-meat eaters.

Take a look at the sights on nevis1 recommended by CaribSurfer. But I would definitely recommend the Cottle Church on the road up to the Mt. Nevis Hotel. We really enjoyed Peak Heaven, but I've read where it's closed. You can ask at the Hermitage. There are many blue historical markets on the road as you go around the island. Well worth stopping and seeing where they lead. Take a leisurely drive and see where the side roads lead. Nevis is pretty laid back and the people are very helpful and friendly.

In addition to Pinney's beach, you should drive down to Windward Beach near the racetrack and stop at Lover's Beach near the airport. Neither of those beaches have facilities or much shade so you can take a walk and a quick swim.

Take a drive up to Golden Rock. They have maps for a walk up the mountain but you can go as far as you want and turn back. We've walked on some of the old roads that go off near the Hermitage and also on the paved roads. It's fun and interesting to see what people do with their gardens. The Hermitage can recommend a guide for a rain forest walk as well. We had a nice walk with one of their guides.

Oualie Beach is the center for sports activity--biking, fishing boats, renting kayaks etc. It's also a nice calm beach with a good restaurant/bar. We also enjoyed Chrishi Beach. Nice beach and good food. It's not far from the car ferry.

There is a nice beach at Nisbet if the wind isn't blowing too hard, and it's worth driving up to Montpelier, just to see the view. If you're interested, the Botanical Garden is nearby.

Nevis has a lot to offer, just depends what you want to do. The Hermitage will be able to help you out.

Edit: If you're there when Gallipot is open, you might want to have lunch or dinner. Great fresh fish.
