Places in Bequia

Could anyone comment on three accommodations in Bequia?

We are looking at Spring House, the Plenty Wind Villa, and Bequia Beach Hotel. We would like something that is a little luxurious without being stuffy, with nice decor and a picturesque beach close by. Good service is important as well, and we need quiet at night time since we have children etc.

We are also looking for a nice pool.

Can anyone offer a comparison between these or offer a recommendation?

Spring House is very nice with lots of staff to take care of you...I don't think anything in Bequia is stuffy or pretentious...Bequia Beach Hotel is lovely and right on the beach at Friendship...gorgeous accomodations...both are Caribbean style, and both would be excellent choices...I'm not familiar with Plenty Wind Villa, but we are having a lot of wind this winter so if Plenty Wind is in a windy location prepare to be blown a lot...

Spring House is actually a house, not a Hotel. It is quite private, deluxe & self-contained - definitely quiet. It is on a hillside overlooking Spring Bay & the Atlantic ocean

Thank you for taking time out to reply -

How does Spring Bay beach compare to friendship in terms of scenery and swimmability? The choice now I think is between Springs and the Hotel. Any ideas as to what you would go with if choosing between the two of them?

BTW - would you rent a jeep in Bequia if you were travelling with two kids and hoping to visit town, check out the rest of the island, and hang out on Lower Bay and P. Margaret beaches??

By the way, how many nights are sufficient to get a feel for Bequia and spend time on the nicer beaches without being rushed? We looking for a "big finish" to our trip are also debating between spending a few extra nights at Bequia, or going to 1) Union Island 2) Canoan or (3) Petit St. Vincent.

What do you guys think? Are you familiar with any of these?

Thank you again,

For a "big finish" off Bequia, I'd definitely choose the Tamarind on Canouan ahead of Union.

But for a REALLY big finish, and given your other posts, why not drop the daytrip to Mustique but stay a night or two in one of Mustique's two hotels?

Hi Bequia Whispers,

You raise some interesting suggestions.

Okay - Union Island is totally out.

We checked out Tamarind and Canoan Bay Resort - Tamarind does not have a pool so we are not sure about that but it sits right on the beach. Canouan seems to have the nicer room - pool looks amazing, but is it stuffy and pretentious or are normal families also okay to go there if they are simply searching out nice atmosphere and great beaches.

Mustique is a good thought but cannot find accomodations there right now - villas are empty and massive, hugely expensive. I think Cotton House is sold out but may double check, and Firefly would force us into two separate rooms altogether which defeats the whole purpose of being away together.

Not sure what to do. Looks like its between Canouan and Mustique.

- Which has the nicer beaches? Sand - swimming water, scenery, etc.?

- Which as the nicer accomodations, eg. Cotton House, Firefly, Tamarind or Can. Bay

- Which has the nicest island feel - relaxation, service, quiet etc.?

Would you pick Canouan and Mustique over Petit St. Vincent after your trip to the Cays?

Whatever we do, we have to make sure we can get back to St. Lucia quickly for our flight home. Not sure how we can do this from Mustique and Canouan - any ideas that won't break the bank???

Any further reply is wondering - the comments are certainly helping.

Oops - keep forgetting - what do you guys think about Petit St. Vincent - as anyone seen it or heard much about it? Can anyone compare the beaches, scenery and accomodation there to Mustique and Canouan? Which would you pick from these three islands if you could only visit one and why - Petit SV, Mustique, or Canouan?

Industry and Spring beaches are both a long way downhill from almost everywhere you might choose to stay, except Industry House which has a pool. Industry is a good beach to lie about on, but often weedy for swimming.

Lower Bay and Princess Margaret Beach are the premier beaches.

Oh oh DW hopper - we thought it was only about 5 minutes down to Spring Bay from Spring House or the Bequia Firefly. Hope we weren't misinformed but it sounded like a little walk down to the beach to hang out.

Would sure be nice to find some quiet, spectacular beach that we could just set ourselves down on in some nice accomodation.

If you haven't been to the grenadine island villas website, they have a search engine that allows you to put in any criteria and will give you all the possibilties on Bequia, they have lots of rentals and are very helpful.

Could well be 5 minutes down, but 15 minutes back up. Very steep hills in that area.
