We are thinking of going to Tobago in February 2013, interested in birdwatching but do not know which hotel to stay in on a BB that would be a good base but near to restaurants and bars for the evening. Any ideas please?

The village of Castara is well placed for birdwatching. In fact most of the birds can be seen in and around the village and there are several good guides either in the village or who are based there. King David is one that comes to mind. It is a fishing village not a resort but there are several places to eat , and drink, in the evenings.

There is also a very good choice of places to stay .

The rain forest comes down to the sea there or if you want to the rain forest reserve is only a 20 minute drive up the coast. If you scroll though the replies on here you will find plenty that endorse the village as the perfect place to get away.............We have been going regularly for 10 years and in fact will be there when you intend being on island so see you there?

I will for sure Ginandtonic.....can't wait!! Might even stay a night or two....change of village does one good lol.

On that note, there is also a bird sanctuary near Grafton Beach Hotel, with a store and a couple places to eat. I believe they feed the birds a couple times of day at an old mill. Wear a hat!
