Whale watching in Tobago - are there any trips??

Hi

Heading to Tobago for some sunshine in a couple of weeks - after all our travels this will be our first ever visit to the Caribbean so looking forward to it.

Question - are there any whale watching trips in Tobago and if so is this the right time of year? Had a look on the internet but couldn't find much so suspect there isn't any.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've never heard of any whale sightings around Tobago.

You probably be approached by locals selling trips to the Bucco Reef ... where there used to be thousands of colorful reef fish ... not anymore. The Reef is but a shadow of it's former self and not worth seeing. Only thing you might want to see is the Nylon Pool where the water is very clear but a trip there is usually included with the Reef visit. Try to get a reduced price for a visit to the Nylon Pool only.

There are no whales around the Tobago coast. Best wildlife would be the many species of birdlife that populate the island.

Trips by glass-bottomed boats to the reef are popular. Have not done one for years so not sure what fish or coral would be seen.

Enjoy!

Maybe we are to far South for whales. We do have leatherback turtles though but that season is over.

I think Bequia has whale watching.

Sadly you may have missed the turtles hatching, but as some were still laying into June you may be lucky. Check with SOS turtle watch at Turtle Beach. Otherwise keep your ears open and be prepared to go if some do hatch. We have had calls in the middle of the night to go jump on a pirrogue and go down the coast to see them !
