First Time

Can anyone suggest a nice smallish friendly hotel, we intend to go in March 2011, would like to be on the beach or very close if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

What sort of holiday are you looking for?

If it is a quiet time in a fishing village where you can mix with locals, eat local fish and produce, swim & snorkel from a safe ( ie with lifeguards ) then check out Castara

Turtle Beach further south ticks a lot of boxes, walk out of the room straight onto the beach. We stayed there the first time we visited Tobago.

Hi Guys

My old favourite with a family welcome on the prettiest beach is the Conrado Beach Resort, check the site conradotobago.com

You can check availability then if you like their low rates (unchanged since 2002 they tell me!) then book a cheapie Monarch charter flight - bookings these yourself will mean your trip will be much cheaper than some awful package stay at one of the rubbish larger hotels.

Let us know how it goes.

I concer with the past two posts......Castara is very quiet and layed back....if you want a little more 'action'...altho there is no 'big' action in Tobago....go for the latter......both are lovely....

and hey....Cheers to Gin and Tonic!! long time no see!!!

first timers.....I suggest staying closer to the airport area.....if you are definate on quaint and quieter....Castara for sure....it's heaven!!

Cheers...lil red

Coco Reef is really fantastic, not too far from the airport. Sandy Point is another great option, again, it's very close to the airport.

I think you definitely should check the rates beforehand and book a room before you come to Tobago, it is August, which means lots of tourists and less available rooms. So book beforehand.

Some hotels in the Crown Point are can be a bit hit or miss...for the same amount of money you would probably pay you could stay at the Douglas Apartments http://www.douglastobago.com/apartments.html

You can get a one bedroom air con room with full self catering facilities for around $90US a night and it is only a 5 min walk straight to the beach. It is very clean and nice there and has a pool.

If you don;t want to cook then there are restaurants nearby. La Cantena by the RBTT bank (the best homemade Italian Pizza which is to die for) and Dillons Seafood restaurant is walking distance from the Douglas Apartments and it is safe to walk there at night. There is also the Backyard Cafe which does early evening light meals like soup and salad and pasta and Cafe Coco is also v close by which does ok food (the inside of the restaurant is lovely though) The nearest bar is Colours (which also does okish food) run by Steven Dolly (an ex airline pilot). It is a really nice bar to drink in. If you do come you really should check out Marcias on Store Bay Local Road - does fab local cuisine and you eat in what must have once been Marcia's front room. Sunday School at Buccoo is perhaps worth giving a miss - if you go early on its ok and you can eat there but after about 9pm the atmosphere changes and it isn't pleasant. Plus if you rent a car you will not be allowed to drive it to Sunday School so best to get a car or go on an organised trip.

I would strongly recommend Cool Breeze Villa in Bacolet Gardens. It is a private 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home with all of the accommodations you could ever want. The view from the balcony is spectacular and there is always a cool breeze flowing through (hence the name). There is also a pool. It is within walking distance from the beach, but also a 10-15 minute drive to other beaches or local attractions. You can view the site at http://www.coolbreezevilla.com/Photos.html.

If anyone is trying that web link above be sure to exclude the period (.) at the end. The page would not come up if you include it which it would by simply clicking the link.

The link to Cool Breeze Villa is http://www.coolbreezevilla.com/Photos.html and the pictures don't do it justice. It's like a home away from home. Full kitchen amenities and a family room stocked with DVD's, games, and music CD's. Maid services and a cook to make local dishes are optional. The grounds have fruit trees so local fruits are right there for the picking!
