US or T&T dollars or both?

I have exchanged some sterling for $T&T but see that a lot of trips set prices in US dollars. Should I take some of these as well? Also do trips/restaurants take visa card?

You do not need to change your £ to US$.

Use your card at ATM at Airport to get cash.

Most places have credit card facilities. Except the roadside places.

The exchange rate on 'the street' ie any shop/bar/restaurant/tour operator etc. is 1$US=6$TT

No need to go to waste your holiday going to a bank or change/cambio where the same rate will apply within 0.1percent(?) .

Do not accept anything less than 6-1 .

The Cambio and the Hotels have horrible exchange rates.

Thanks for advice. We get heavily penalised for using ATM abroad so only would use in an emergency.

Then you can use your £. But it would be good to have local currency too. You have place where you can change it?

There were previous posts on where people went to change their £ into TT.

Try a search.

As I said before, anyone / any business will take USD. The rate is 6$TT = 1$USD

You do not need to go to a bank / cambio ( there is only the one at the airport ) to change US to TT.

Although many places / operators quote prices in USD they are more than happy to take either US or TT $, but as Ginandtonic said, make sure that the TT price is no more than the bank rate for US (approx. 6 to 1).

You can also bring GBP and exchange at any bank - there is no commission charged in banks here so the exchange rate quoted on the day is what you get in your hand.

Normally it works out better to exchange GBP here in Tobago instead of in the UK.

A lot of restaurants and tours will accept credit cards but be aware that not all do so be sure to enquire ahead of time in case you need to pay in cash.

And always inform your bank card / credit card supplier where you intend to use the card so that they do not 'red flag' it as being used at an unusual sales point / country that is different from your usual profile!!
