we were planning a day trip to the Northwest Point/Amanyara area. Is there any decent snorkeling accessible from the beach or is the reef accessible by boat only? Are there any other areas other than Turtle Cove and Coral Gardens worth visiting?

There is snorkeling there. As you look at the ocean around to your left, I used to go there, Just a little further around from where the tiki huts used to be.

I really don't think it is as good in many ways to the usual suspects as there is not the reef system just off shore there. But you can still see things.
