Possible TCI Trip in June...

Hi all,

Just starting out some research on the islands for a possible trip in late June. We were initially considering Costa Rica and Cuba but have scratched these ideas due to time restraints. We will be spending a week or so prior on the US west coast.

A few quick general questions:-

1. Which area/ hotels would you recommend (we're in our late 20's and enjoy sightseeing and a cocktail or 12!) Budget is $1,500-$2,000 for accommodation for 7+ days. The Grace Bay beach looks amazing....!?

2. Car hire - approximate cost per day? Worthwhile?

3. Flights from LA - found a few for around $600.00 return per person. Does this sound like a good rate for June? Can anyone suggest a good (fast) airline?

4. We have been to the Bahamas and Jamaica before and really loved the Bahamas but would like to go somewhere at bit different. Are the TCI extremely similar to the Bahamas?

Any replies/ tips/ advice is greatly appreciated!

The T&C islands used to be part of the bahamas. When the bahamas went for independence, T&C decided to stay part of england. They are very similar, all reef islands.

Grace Bay Car rentals have cars for around $40./day.

Seems like the airfare is reasonable.

I'm not up on hotel rates for the summer, but I think you'll have plenty of options available at that price. Check out www.wherewhenhow.com

We traveled out of LAX last June with a package deal through Expedia for 6 days at the Windsong and a non-stop flight with American for $2500. Had no problems with American, on time and the luggage arrived when we did ! The room rates dropped a couple weeks before we left so we upgraded to a one bedroom ocean front suite--awesome view and steps from the beach. Car rental was $40 a day and a must if you want to check out all that the island has to offer. The Windsong is a newer, smaller, boutique style resort and very quiet. Since you are in your 20's you may enjoy something more lively !! Check out the many posts from other travelers asking for lodging advice as well as the web site that lyonfish recommended and you should be able to find what you want. IMO Grace Bay Beach is reason enough to make this your destination--gorgeous. Good luck and happy traveling.

Thanks so much for the replies, I do appreciate it.

We did some research online last night and while we want to stay on Grace Bay beach, hubby also wants to visit North Caicos (for the flamingos and old villages) and Grand Turk! Need to research best ways to get here (flights only?)...

TCI ferry to North Caicos, then rental car. Middle Caicos is also accessible at that point.

You'll need to fly to Grand Turk.

Been to both -- very much worth the efforts.

We have stayed at the ocean club in June in the past, they have had stay 5 days and get 2 free at that time. it is on grace bay and has a great beach.

If you go to north caicos, rent a car and go to middle caicos, dragon cay. you can see pictures of it if you go the the blue horizons resort web page. It is a beautiful and secluded beach. there is a walkway up above the rocks with great views and a semi cave to go in for shade.

Thanks for the great tips everyone! Getting really excited! I'm thinking maybe we should extend our stay beyond 7 days if we want to cover that much ground?
