Just curious....

Hello my fellow beach lovers! My husband and I are thinking of taking a jaunt around the Caribbean sometime soon and am curious how Antigua, St John and the Exumas compare to TCI. Important factors include beaches, friendliness of the population, government stability, ease of getting in and out of the country to the US, diving, activities, food, prices....

We love TCI for its intimacy, beauty and accessibility. What other Caribbean Islands come close in comparison, in your opinion?

Hi Dejs!

If you remove the snorkel/dive factor, Anguilla is tops. Gorgeous beaches, dare i say better restaurants? It has a great Caribbean vibe. A little harder to get to, but worth it. (fly into St. Martin, ferry over)

With Exumas, again, no real snorkel/diving, but beaches are stunning! Easiest way to fly into is either through Nassau or from Ft. Lauderdale. Has more of an overall Blue Hills feeling, the beaches are some of the best I've laid eyes on.

i liked Antigua, don't love it. To describe it, and i'll get flack for this, it's like a poor mans St. John.

St. John is completely different than Provo. Terrific snorkel/scuba. Lush, scenery is stunning. Cool beach shack bars all over, some reached just by boat. I would combine with Virgin Gorda, another stunner.

You know I love TCI, but I do love Virgin Islands--I would pick that.

(I love Exumas too, but might not meet all of your criteria, especially knowing your love of underwater)

We loved the Exumas in the Bahamas in the warmer months. Also we enjoyed the BVI's but this was done on a 5 day luxo catamaran with three other couples. We would live on the cat and if we were near a good place for food/drink we would hop onto one of the islands. VIrgin Gorda, Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, etc. My favorite spot was Sand Spit. : )

Anguilla is on the list for someday. Looks right up our alley too.

I have been to the three that you mentioned but not to Anguilla (yet) and much prefer TCI (five visits in four years). Have also visited 10 other caribbean islands and TCI #1 so far in a big way! Overall, I have found TCI (providencialis in the turks and caicos) to be less developed, more beautiful beaches and water and quieter.

Thanks all! We have been to Anguilla and I agree, Blamona, about the beaches and eateries. BUT, the flight to St Martin is just too long and THEN you have to ferry...Getting to and from is a MAJOR consideration!

I have always been intrigued by the USVI/BVI...St John and Virgin Gorda, in particular. Hmmmmm....maybe a trip is in the offing! Thanks again for all of your input!

Been to US Virgin Islands, both St Thomas and St John and we liked the one layover day we spent in Turks over Virgin Islands...I think Turks is a little more quiet and not commerical at all.I did like Trunk Bay on St John but Turks blew them both away imo....

The Exumas are absolutely amazing! Many smaller beaches that reminded me of Grace bay. The people were some of the friendliest of all the places we have visited. My husband and I were invited to a resident's BBQ at their house with only knowing them a short time. All of the different cays out do each other. Food is not gourmet like many Provo restaurants but delicious (like more of the local authentic cuisine) I don't think you would be disappointed.
