In Heaven!

Arrived today. My littles, who are normally not the best travel companions, were on their best behavior for both flights. I was surprised to say the least with how smooth the day went. Greeted with a smile and Honda CRV from GBCR. Brought our own car seats for the kiddos for the first time- great decision.

Somerset greeted us with cool towels and rum punch. It is our second time staying in the Stirling building and the decor is perfect for our taste (I am a Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware fan). The last room we had more of an Asian/modern decor still nice but just not my style.

Went to Flamingo Cafe for an easy after travel dinner. Did not disappoint. 6 rum punches. 3 curried groupers. 1 conch salad, 1 cracked

conch and a fish basket for the kids was $150- a Provo bargain!

Tired is an understatement and I am off to bed. Plan on continuing this thread throughout the week. The breeze on the patio is amazing. I love this place. In heaven!! :)

" 6 rum punches. 3 curried groupers" -- Now this is my kind of start. Enjoy this one and keep us posted if you can.

Ps -- cash only at Flamingos, for the fellow droolers.

We had a wonderful day yesterday. Started the day with the the takeout continental breakfast from the Somerset- mostly fruit fresh fruit and an assortment of pastries. Our balcony wraps around the Stirling building. Such a nice spot to enjoy coffee.

My kids are having a blast. This is by far the most fun they have had on a trip. Ever. Between the pool and the beach we couldn't keep them out of the water. It briefly rained but not even enough to pack up our stuff. Otherwise a gorgeous day with just a few passing clouds.

Somerset has bottled water by the beach which is a nice touch. On Fridays they are doing movies and popcorn on the croquet lawn and Monday afternoons they are doing a bonfire with s'mores for the the kids. On Weds they have beach yoga.

Several other guests have complained about the service and attitudes from Luna Sea. We are pretty self sufficient. I don't mind walking to the bar for a drink or need someone to check on me every five minutes so it's not an issue for us. However, my husband has celiac disease and cannot have gluten. When trying to discuss preparation methods with the cook at Luna Sea we were laughed at. No biggie. We decided to head down to Hemingway's and probably had a better lunch there anyway. My mom, the kids, and I all had cracked conch to start and my husband had the conch salad. We all had fish tacos and they made my husbands's with corn tortillas. Great service and a mouth watering lunch.

My almost three year old's new favorite food is conch. Love it. :)

There were a few issues with Luna Sea and Pavilion. It seems like they need to communicate more. I understand that Luna Sea is not owned by the Somerset. My mom and kids were planning on ordering pizza from Pavilion for dinner. Luna Sea told us Pavilion would be a better option for dinner as they are opened a little later and would have more options. I walked to Pavilion and the host basically had no idea what I was talking about and said pizza wasn't an option and they did not have it on the menu. Sent me back to Luna Sea. They were closing early and said they wouldn't make it. As I was walking back up to the room, a nice server grabbed my attention and said they would make it at Pavilion. Interesting. Kids and my mom enjoyed it. 2 pizzas $36.

My husband and I decided to go to Caicos Cafe. Wow. Started with the skewered calamari. Excellent. I've never had calamari so tender that I could cut it with a fork. It melted in my mouth- SO SO good. We both had the Provo catch which was grouper. By far the best grouper I have had anywhere in the last few years. Very light and cooked to perfection. I believe our dinner was around $170 with a few glasses of Chardonnay. We may just have to go back. Marco was really nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Caicos Cafe.

Headed to the casino after that and did not do nearly as well as Dr. Jim. ;)

And yes, Dr. Jim, everyone still remembers you, your beard, and your $2 dollar bills- ha!

Nothing makes a parent happier than seeing their kids happy and having fun! Sounds like your having a perfect family vacation!

It does seem that the restaurants at the Somerset need to step it up though. Sounds like the chef at Luna Sea needs to. take some lessons from Hemmingway's. Celiac needs to taken seriously. Glad that your DH was able to get a good meal at Hemmingway's.

Ziggy will be happy to read your report on Caicos Cafe :) !

Keep enjoying!!!

You should have never been laughed at by the food prep staff @ Luna Sea. Celiac Disease( an autoimmune disease that involves the small intestines, triggered by intake of glutens, affects about 1 out of 100) is very real for those families that have one or members who have to adhere to special lifetime dietary habits. DR. VICKI would have berated them in a heartbeat. Sounds like Pavilion had the same attitude. It's not that rare when 1% of the population has it. DR. JIM
