Your advice please. Ty. (staying on Grace Bay)..... How much is it for cab fare typically only going a couple of km's for dinners?
I highly recommended getting a car. We’re stsyibg a bit further out in Leeward Bay and love being able to hit a different beach every day. When we stayed at Beaches last time there was no need for a car, but this experience is so much richer being able to explore the whole island.
From your post staying at Sands I say yes. Taxi is redicous expensive. Sands has some empty lots between it and the hub. Car gives freedom to go anywhere and taxi will add up to more in long run.
Unless you drink in which case stick to taxi
If only 2 people and just planning on staying in the 'hub' area only, then taking a cab is reasonable.....comparable to Toronto pricing.
I recommend Kalvin. 649-241-3576. If you let him know that you'll be using his services throughout your stay his pricing will be fair. He's also a very courteous and responsible driver.
We usually reserve a car for at least half of our stay.
Get the car at the airport upon arrival and off to our resort.
Stock the unit from IGA and Wine Cellars and use to drive to restaurants.
Tool around the island a few days and explore.
The last portion we tend to chill around our resort and hoof it to nearby restaurants.
Taxi to airport from resort .
Works well for us since may days we don't need a car.
I also prefer to have a car the entire time. We tend to be spontaneous with our plans so hopping in the car is always an option. Plus we like to visits restaurants across the island for lunch, not to mention the Graceway Gourmet food store.
If you will be going out to dinner more than twice, then rent a car.
Think I saw n another post u r staying at Sands. We’ve stayed several times at Sands (for as much as 2 weeks) and not rented a car at all or rented for a couple days for groceries & exploring. We enjoy walking & Sands is in a fairly central location. That said...depending on where we r going we may walk to dinner if we go before dark & normally grab a cab for return. We call Kalvin for cab service; have used him for several trips. His rates r fair & he’s very reliable. Sorry I don’t remember $$$ amount for taxi; it’s just worth it to us.Edited: 18 January 2018, 20:04
Car! Taxis totally rip you off. We were charged $200 for 3 people for a 30 minute ride in a crappy old van with a guy who had his kid with.
Car rental is less than $40/day and gas is less than $5/gallon.
Just be careful on roundabouts, they are not marked well and drivers yield for one another (not merge).
Please disregard the incorrect advise from travelisme01. Please learn to use a roundabout properly. You do not "yield for one another" You yield to traffic already in the circle.... Numerous videos available on youtube about now to navigate traffic circles.
