trip report, part 1 (Leeward)

Flew in Thursday evening, walked off the plane, right up to immigration (no line), waited maybe 5-10 minutes for luggage, then to customs, 2 minute wait and then off to Avis. Driving on the left at night took a little while to get used to but we got the hang of it. Drove out to Leeward Resort, unpacked and relaxed. 1st day breakfast at Fresh (very good see review) then off to IGA. Grocery prices weren't as bad for many items as I thought. We packed alot of our own food, knowing we would be cooking. Then off to Wine Cellar. The prices for beer and liqour are much better than IGA (case of Turks Head at IGA $52, Wine Cellar $38). Back to Leeward and day at the pool. Leeward was nice, actually a little busier than expected but still quiet and relaxing (see review). Saturday (busy day); kayaked over to Little Water Cay. Rented a kayak from Big Blue (which is right next door to Leeward). The kayak was awesome. Me, wife and 4 yr old in sit-on-top and it was an easy paddle. We did stop 1/2 way and played on a sand bar in the Leeward Going Through. Got out to Little Water Cay and had the island to ourselves and a private tour of the iguanas. A little playtime then off to Star Island (pile of dredged sand and shells), nice sandy beach and lots of shells and conchs. Then paddled back skirting the mangroves. We didn't go into the mangroves since it was low tide. Got back, a quick dip in the pool, lunch then off to Taylor Bay Beach. I would highly recommend a trip down there. Knee/waist deep water for several hundrend feet. Very quiet. Park by the tennis courts, walk back and you'll find it. The bottle of sangria went quick. Back to Leeward, clean up and off to Turtle Cove with intentions of going to dinner and the Battle of the Bands. Diner was ok (Sharkbite) but after the busy day, we got lazy and headed back. Sunday, checkout, drove over to Le Vele to drop off bags (trip report part 2 coming soon). Drove over to the golf course for lunch (see review). Long lunch, drove back to Le Vele, checked in. Left the kiddo and wife at Le Vele, gassed up the rental, stopped by Grace Way IGA for a bit more food then to Avis. Then back to Le Vele for 5 nights (turned out to be 6 because of cancelled flight, but more on that in part 2)
