Sea Feathers Villas

Just back from a wonderful stay in the Ocean Palms and want to express how wonderful and hospitable the folks at Sea Feathers are. The Villa was perfectly placed for endless views, full of just what was needed for our holiday, and Peter and Sally were more than willing to give us all the orientation/advice needed. I know that there is a negative review thread regarding Sea Feathers on here somewhere, but our experience could not have been better. I highly recommend them.

Reviews are just that---someone else's biased subjective opinions(sometimes without merit). In my profession I usually give my patients pretty objective medical opinions whether good or bad. DR. JIM

Yes, that must be true. I should also say, though, that the location of their villas really is wonderful. Yes, the Venetian road is a bit bumpy, but the views on the South Side are amazing, the water is wonderful for swimming, and the trip over to the IGA and Grace Bay is pain-free and brief. We'll be staying that direction from here on out...

Sorry but our experience with Sea Feathers was horrible. The villa we rented "Ocean Palms" was very nice though a bit dated. Could have used a " mini" face left. No heater for the swimming pool either. However, that was not the issue. The gentlemen who rented the property to us from Sea Feathers we believed, robbed us blind. We went over Christmas vacation two yrs ago.( I had been meaning to post, but we opened a restaurant, so I gave been busy) Anyway,, long story short. He would over ride our security code when we would leave. Our little boy had $ 400.00 in cash stolen from his Spiderman wallet. It was Christmas money he received from all of our relatives.. I had a very expensive pair of sapphire earrings go missing as well. Also, one day when we told the manager of Sea Feathers that we would be out, he came into our villa. We had a change of plans but never mentioned it to him. When he saw us there getting professional massages, he just glared at us & abruptly left. This guy is very shady & I would be very careful about doing business with him. At the time, his wife helped in the office & he would bring his dog with him to meet the tourists. Trust me, it's a ruse.

Seems like this forum is getting an unusual number of negative reviews, with most coming from first time posters. Am I the only one who finds it odd that it took 2 1/2 years for this to get posted?

Property managers need access to the properties they manage, but I agree that security codes should not be overridden without a good reason, like a maintenance issue. As for the missing money and earrings - why would you leave $400 in a kid's wallet or even bring expensive earrings on vacation? We never carry large amounts of cash and certainly would never allow a child to carry that much money. Any jewelry of any value stays at home. Was there no safe? Something I would inquired about before renting if I was planning on leaving large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry at the property.

Was a police report filed, an investigation done? How many others have stayed successfully, without incident since this allegedly happened? If something like this happened to me, I'd make it was reported promptly not only to the police but to fellow travelers who might be considering the property. All just seems very strange to me.

You can be as skeptical as you would like, that is your prerogative. However, as I stated in my post, as soon as we got back from our trip, we opened a restaurant. That coupled with alternatively caring for my dad whom has dementia with my sister, posting was not a top priority. It is only now that we are again searching for getaways, that I happened to come across Sea Feather posts. I thought I should post our experience as well. Understand, it was not something that had me beside myself. We were disgusted & disappointed & vowed to never use Sea Feathers again but we were not losing sleep over this or causing a rant. We were warned about what can happen on " any" Carribean island. The have nots will try & take from the haves, in almost all Carribean islands. Especially tourists who are in the dark about the countries legal system, who to contact, where the police are located etc etc. Not to mention, tourists only stay for short periods which makes things especially hard. It's not like you have the time & resources to successfully pursue anything. To answer your question, there was no safe in the house which I should have seen as a red flag straight away. You are right about not allowing a child to carry that much cash. However, the cash was with us on our carry on. He had just received the money for Christmas & was excited about seeing if he could purchase Legos in Turks & Caicos. As far as the earrings go, I did not know they were missing till the morning we were leaving & rushing around to catch our flight. As soon as we arrived home, we did contact Sea Feathers about the missing jewelry & never heard a word back. By the way my iPhone went missing the day we arrived but miraculously appeared whenever I made mention of having Verizon track the GPS on it. For what reason would I have to post a lie two and a half years later. Seriously? There is no hidden, vindictive agenda here. I am simply stating our experience with this particular agency. I am in no way implying all agencies act in this manner. We have traveled quite a bit and we honestly almost never have any kind of negative experience. Actually, just the opposite. Just because I am a first time poster doesn't mean a thing. I am not an internet savvy girl is all. Honestly, after your response, I will be a last time poster. I was only trying to help prevent others from having there vacation ruined. Sheeeesh lady.

It is not fair to dismiss comments simply because it is the first time someone makes a post. There was a time-many years ago when I had a first post--as did everyone else. While I might look at a first post and wonder about it, I would never question it publicly.

As I stated in my previous post, there have been an usual number of negative posts from first-time posters (and not just on this forum) , including several recently. I am not the only person who has questioned these and many have been removed by TA. Yes, we were all first-time posters at one time but it raises red flags when the poster doesn't have any pre-trip questions (like inquiring about Sea Feathers before renting, since there is a negative review from 2010) and then only posts only a negative review and nothing positive about their trip.

If this had been a recent incident I would see much greater value in the OP's experience but after 2 1/2 years, how do you even know if the same people are even employed with Sea Feathers, especially when others with more recent visits have reported positive experiences? In the original post it talked about the the individual who rented the villa to the OP and/or the property manager, calling it a ruse. Now it's the agency that there is an issue with. Does that mean the agency only consists of one person and is the property manager a different person? Very confusing.

When you rent a property, whether it be a villa or room, you have reasonable expectations of not having your property tampered with but after having been warned about what can happen on any Caribbean island (or just about any where in the world these days), why would you leave anything of value unattended? Doesn't sound like any police report was filed, even though the $400 cash was noticed missing during the stay. While it's true most tourists don't have the knowledge of a foreign countries legal system, it really shouldn't be all that difficult to file a police report so that at least a record of the crime is made. That way the police can hopefully track if there is a pattern of crimes in the area and take measures to correct the situation. If they don't know that crimes are happening then these situations will continue to occur.
