St. Croix in June

Headed to St. Croix in June for a week with some friends. Staying in a beachfront house on the East end near the yacht club in Teague's bay. I reated a vehicle and plan to be mobile.

My question is regarding "nightlife". I have been to many other islands, including St. Maarten. When you ask people about nightlife in St. Maarten they say there is really no nightlife per say but I beg to differ. It depends on your definition of nightlife. I'm not looking for fist pumping clubs open till 4am filled with spring breakers a la Cancun... but rather any establishment that serves alcohol food and is open past 12am, or that has a DJ or live music, electronic, jazz, reggae, etc...

Am I right to think that the historic Christianstead area holds some beach bars, like the brew pub and Runners that are open late? Also was looking for 1 or 2 "high end" restaurants. Again, High End doesn't mean Nobu... not to me, just a place that's a tad more formal than flip flops...

Also if you had to pick only 3 beaches on the island to spend a day at each what would they be?

There is night life on St. Croix ... your best choice perhaps would be some of the "resorts" ... The Buccaneer has a very very nice restaurant ($$$); The Deep End has a nice restaurant crab races usually some sort of group playing on certain nights of the week, Cheeseburgers has live music on Fridays and is a nice little place, The Palms (about 10 minutes west out of Christiansted) has Caribbean night on Mondays with Moko Jumbies, Kiki and the fire dancers, limbo contest .... good restaurant ($$) great bar ... a different event each night of the week --- Trivial Pursuits, Wing Night, Surf and Turf (Fridays), Prime Rib (Sat.) brunch on Sunday ... they also have live entertainment some of the nights ... you need to pick up St. Croix This Week at the airport and it will list the various places with live music; Carambola which is closer to Fredricksted also has "Caribbean Night" ... some of the bars downtown Christiansted also have various live groups ... HOWEVER you are going to be there in off-season and I never have so I'm not sure how many live groups you will find ... no matter whether it is high or low season downtown Christiansted pretty much goes to bed around 9 unless it is Art Thursday or Jump Up ...

I'm going to leave the beaches to CrabGroupie because she is an expert on this topic and it makes a difference if you want to snorkel, sit and watch the ocean, dive, etc. ... my favorite is Rainbow beach (west end) where I can rent a chair and sit almost in the water and just chill out ...

I don't do nightlife on St. Croix, too tired after my day activities! But Lynne gave you great examples of where to find information. You might check St. Croix This Week online:

stcroixthisweek.com/images/STX_This_Week_Eve…

I have been to the island in late June in to early July. You will want to call more remote restaurants before you go. For example, eat@Cane Bay was closed our entire visit, Rowdy Joe's had an additional day closed on a weekday. You'll be fine in Christensted and at the resorts for restaurants and activities.

Beaches - for a first time visitor, I recommend you visit beaches in different geographic locations: Isaac's Beach - a short hike to the beach from the eastern-most part of the island, Cane Bay Beach on the north, and any of Fredriksted's beautiful stretch of beach - Rainbow or to the south by the Sandcastle' property, which are on the west side of the island.

I thought a snorkeling tab was added to Top Questions, but it appears to have been taken down. That is too bad as it was a very good thread with excellent details.

eat@Cane Bay was open last July, I hope they are open this July. (They were also for sale a while back) Check out their web page for info including live music. The live music info might not be updated until just a few weeks before.

Most restaurants in St. Croix are not open after midnight, but the Divi Casino always is and they usually have entertainment on week-ends. They are also located on the east end, close to where you will be staying – around a 5 minute drive.

Flip-flops are not usually considered “casual” for most places here, either, which is a good thing, because that’s all I wear . But a couple of the higher end restaurants are Galangal and The Galleon. Duggan’s and Savant are also really good.

Great beaches are Isaac’s – it is pretty secluded (so no amenities) and you need to hike down to it, but it is breathtaking, a nice beach for walking, sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling.. It is also on the east end. Cane Bay beach is always a happening place with great snorkeling and an awesome restaurant/bar right across the street. And we like the beach at Tamarind Reef resort for snorkeling. You can rent a tiki hut and some chairs there if you like, but you can also just lie on a towel for free. The Deep End Bar is right there, too.

Welcome to TA and the STX Forum, Jillagogo! And you just taught me something I didn't know about St. Croix - the existence of Manchenil Beach. I had to look it up but there it is on the South Shore next to Halfpenny. Guess it goes on the list of things to do in 2015!

Funny thing Carol ... I had to search for it also ... I knew about Halfpenny which we didn't make it to this year and which is on our list for the next trip but I guess I need to add another beach ... for as many times as I've been there this list only gets longer ... this is a good thing!

I've not heard of Halfpenny or Manchenil Beaches and we've been to STX at least seven times! We'll have to check both out on our next trip. I'd definitely go to Cane Bay where the water can be very calm - we have had good snorkeling experiences there.
