Weather in St.Thomas late August

What is the weather usually like? Does it rain alot more? And if so...are the showers long lasting? I'm also paranoid about hurricanes. I know its the peak of the season..but I've gone to different carib islands during August and September and apparently got lucky. I'm not sure what the hurricane patterns are for St.Thomas?

September is usually the worst hurricane period but August is certainly in hurricane season. It's hotter in August because the tradewinds die down but the temperature only varies by a few degrees. Just take out trip insurance should you decide to visit then.

The trajectory of hurricanes over the past several years has had them generally bypassing us and heading for the mainland, and the prediction for hurricanes this year in general is on the lower side.

If a front or a hurricane moves through the rain will generally last 1-2 days, otherwise it's "rain as norma," i.e. short showers to keep the islands green and our cisterns full!

But, as said, always wise to take out trip insurance during hurricane season - the cost is minimal. Cheers!

When you take out trip insurance be sure to read the entire policy and make sure that it actually covers for cancellation in the event of a hurricane.
