Day trips from St. Thomas to the BVI

My sister and I are taking the kids to St. Thomas for Spring break in April. We are looking for some kind of day trip to Virgin Gorda or Jost Von Dyke. We would like to go snorkeling. I have been told to go see the Baths, Cooper Island and Norman Island. Any suggestions on trips and companies to check out?? Thanks

If you have 6 people or less getting a private powerboat with a Captain to charter is fairly cost effective and allows you a lot of freedom for deciding where to go and how much time you spend there - one I have used and like as an example:

www.sunseavi.com

There are quite a few good local Captains like this who do charters on their personal vessel - some are reviewed on this site in 'attractions' -

There are also group charter vessels like Pirates Penny, Breakaway, bad Kitty etc. but the trip is on their schedule.

It is also possible to take ferry boats and do your own thing on the island but usually will only give you one destination.

Here's the link to the ferry schedules and rates:

Remember that you MUST now have valid passports to travel between the USVI and the BVI whether you go by ferry or charter.

We did a private charter with our kids ( 12,10) with Palm Tree Charters- Capt. John Brandi is out of STJ, but will come to pick you up on STT. Kids said it was the highlight of their vacation!

Also look at the most popular operators like Stormy Petrel, New Horizons, and Bad Kitty. Their excursions include a stop at the Baths on VG, a snorkel stop, a lunch stop at the Cooper Island Restaurant or Marina Cay, Torotola, and finally an hour in White Bay, Jost's. These are all motor boats due to the long distance to the east side of Tortola.

Another nice option is the Daydreamer out of the Sugar Bay Resort that stops for snorkeling at a cay off St John, then at Great Harbor (JVD) for lunch at Foxy's, then on to White Bay (JVD) to hit the Soggy $ Bar and other beach bars. New Horizons takes more people but all are very highly-rated.

[EDIT] sorry, localsailor mentioned these earlier.
