Did the NP camping cabins a Cinnamon Bay survive Hurricane?
We stayed there a couple years ago and would like to go back
There was a lot of damage to the cottages at Cinnamon Bay.The beautiful row of palm trees are gone. The current company running the campgroundsis renegotiating its contract with the NPS.It looks like no real repairs will be done until that happens.Cinnamon Bay Resorts recently posted that any questions on the reopening of Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay should be directed to the park service. The company has not been proactive on social media with news of the campgrounds so we will all have to wait for updates from the park service
The Original cabins were pretty much destroyed, but they were supposed to be replaced this year anyway.. The newer cabins were also damaged, not habitable. Trunk Bay opened this week. No charge for admission, but limited facilities. Cinnamon Bay BEACH is expected to open later this month, again, just the beach, with limited facilities. I doubt either would open without some form of rest rooms, however primitive. Unfortunately, it is not expected that Maho will reopen anytime soon.
Sure hope things bounce back @ beautiful Cinnamon Bay & STJ in general. The damage/devastation is so widespread & will take much time.
Hard to predict when CBR will reopen as the concessioner has to run EVERYTHING thru NPS for approval; adding one more (probably very bureaucratic/slow) layer to the recovery efforts!
