Gallows Point- worth the extra $$$?

Considering Gallows Point is it worth the extra bucks? Are the harbour view rooms worth it? Some reviews say that the harbour view side is louder- disrupt sleep loud (we are staying during Carnival)?

I have never stayed there, so take my comment as such. If you are light sleepers staying on the harbour side, you should consider the ferries. Every hour on the hour departing, every hour 20 min past arriving from Red Hook, 6am to 11pm or midnight. Plus the ferries to/from Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Gorda, Jost, etc.

While the property is beautiful and convenient to town, for the price I would rent a private villa a little away from town. We like staying in the Great Cruz Bay and Maria Bluff areas. If you want to stay in town because you don't want to rent a car (but I recommend renting one), I would stay at Gallows Point over Grand Bay. I like the location of GP much more than GB. There is a swimable beach (though broken coral, not sand) & good snorkeling at GP. Not so at GB.

I love Gallows and it is worth it to me. When you ask if its worth the extra money, what are you comparing iot to? What is your alternative?

Compared to some less expensive places in Coral Bay.

We also liked the studio at Coconut Coast simple, but right on water (Gallows 60-100 bucks more). Thanks!

I just stayed at Gallows.Read my recent review. I would imagine it will be noisy during Carnival esp if you stay in a unit harborside which is closer to town like 12,13, 14. But we did not hear the boats at night while sleeping. We stayed in a villa in Coral bay area the previous 2 years but after staying at gallows we are spoiled. The snorkeling off the little ramp there is quite good, and no one else besides the guests use it. The warm swimming pool at well maintained hot tub nearby are uncrowded and wonderful. and you can't beat the easy walk into town. Its worth the extra money and we walked down to Coconut Coast which looked OK but at night the walk into town is through an area that is not well light and their pool is really small and it looked cloudy.

Gallows and Coral bay are 2 different vacations.

If you intend to eat out every night and like having the conveninece of walking, then Gallows is a no brainer.

If you are looking for a total escape, dinner on the deck watching the stars, etc, then I would say go for Coral Bay.

It all depends on what you are looking for.

I went back and read a few of your prior posts---I see this is your first trip to STJ and you don't need "casinos or big nightlife" but also want "something to do after 9 P.M." Based on this, I think Gallows Point is an excellent choice. Gallows has very pretty grounds and a nice waterfront setting, but its just a sort walk into Cruz Bay where there are some fun restaurants and bars. As to the ferry noise, you are likely to use A/C in July anyway, so I don't think it should be too big an issue (it hasn't bothered me).

We have stayed at Gallows several times and love it!. The last trip, we stayed in a lower harborside unit. (10) We were never bothered by the ferries or any other noise and I am a light sleeper.

A good (cheaper) alternative is the Estate Lindholm. It is just above Cruz Bay is a great value. We have stayed there last year and are checking in agan on Monday. Easy walk to Cruz Bay, awesome views and the owners are outstanding.
