On Island Now and Much Cooler Than Past Years

Just wanted anyone who may be headed down soon to STJ, it's quite a bit cooler now compared to our past visits this time of year. We did snorkel yesterday but had wetsuits. Went shopping for long sleeve shirts today.

Are the "Christmas winds" still making it impossible to snorkel on the north shore??

We were there last week and we thought the winds were stronger and it was much cooler--only really one day when the sun was strong.

According to wind guru the winds are still blowing but will die down later this week/nest week to almost nothing.

Wow - I've never heard of STJ being too cold to swim! Looking at the weather, the highs seem to be around 80. Is that cold? Are the water temps lower than normal?

Thanks,

I think it might depend on how you take to "cooler" weather and waters in the states,if you are from maine, new england, the northeast or northwest the caribbean waters will still be much warmer than anything I swim in during the heat of the summer in NY or new england. It depends on what you consider warm.

The highest the ocean water in Maine gets to is 60 degrees. Do I consider STJ water warm? Let's put it this way - let's all consider ourselves lucky I were a bathing suit. :-)

We were surfing in P.R. for 10 days, just returned, and also had very cool weather compared to the last few years..... actually it was delightful because the humidity was much lower.....our clothes weren't always damp. We were thinking it was probably also cooler in STJ, but we didn't think the water was bad at all, felt great for sure!

It was very windy for most of our stay, plus the waves were way too big, I imagine the north shore on STJ got hit badly! Lots of fun though.....
