St. John rental on beach with calm water?

I am planning a trip to St. John with 2 girlfriends in March. We are looking for a lovely house on a beach with calm water. We don't want to be on a mountain with difficult driving. Does such a house exist. It is a special birthday, so we are willing to splurge (up to 1,000 per night). thanks. phyllis

Yes, try Gibney Beach villas.

You will not find too many rentals "on" the water in general. All of the roads in Saint John are a bit challenging, but so worth it! The higher you go, the more beautiful the views! Don't rob yourselves of this! You get comfortable with the steep hills and roads, after 20 years of vacationing on Saint John, it is our only vacation spot!!

I'd look at VRBO which has a really wide selection. Are you looking for something more secluded? Gibney is a wonderful beach but it's drawback in my mind is it's close to Hawksnest which is a pretty popular beach so if you are looking for more privacy, I'd think about something on the eastern part of the island. $1,000/night is a generous allowance but most places require a 5-7 day minimum. There are places you can walk to the water easily. Are you open to that?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we are open to walking to the beach if it is not too far.

Villa Rentals By Owner = vrbo

The proximity to Hawksnest is rarely an impact on the privacy of the Gibney Beach cottages.

Phyllis - Take a look at Wings Over Water at www.vacationvistas.com It's not on the beach, but is on the water. You will need a vehicle, but you should have one anyway IMO to explore as many of the beautiful beaches that St John offers as you can during your visit. Taxis charge per person and add up quick. Driving on STJ is easy & fun. The speed limit is low (I think 25 tops), and you're lucky if you go 5 mph though town. Just remember to STAY LEFT! (And wear your seatbelt so you don't get a ticket.)

Thank you for your suggestion. Wings over Water really is gorgeous, but we are three women and we need three bedrooms. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Phyllis - Take a look at Splash & Gull Cottage at www.caribbeanvilla.com There are also a couple other villas on this site that are near the water and a short walk to a pebble beach.

Also look at Belvedere at www.destinationstjohn.com They have a few others too. (Don't consider Calypso Cove - although on the water, the house has issues. We stayed there years ago, and from recent reviews nothing has improved)
